The HD DVD spec is MPEG-2, VC-1 (as in Windows Media), and AVC (as in H.264). I believe most films in HD DVD have been encoded to VC-1, with the rest to AVC (H.264). H.264 ain’t just for computers. Google “HD-DVD encoding very slow” and you’ll see lots of confirmation of that (although 29 hours seems very long). There’s a preset in Compressor for HD-DVD (H.264).
Here’s what Apple says about encoding to HD-DVD:
>>>If you want to export an H.264 format movie from Final Cut Pro HD or Motion, you must use the “HD DVD H.264” presets included with Compressor to ensure that the video works with DVD Studio Pro. Do not export the file through QuickTime.If you want to make a custom H.264 preset in Compressor, select the Multi-pass setting and set the bit rate to 18 Mbps or less to ensure DVD compatibility.
Note: Currently, only progressive H.264 video formats are supported, including 480p (NTSC only), 576p (PAL only), and 720p (NTSC and PAL). Export them as a Quicktime reference file or a self-contained QT using “Current Settings”.
I do both, but prefer the self-contained to save as a master digital file.

We’ll never know unless you give us some details (PAL, NTSC, interlaced, progressive, SD, HD, format, settings, etc.).
And what are dual 23″HD monitors, do you mean your computer monitors? I assume you mean they’re LCD monitors, but
how can we know?

Haven’t done what you’re proposing so I’ll leave that up to others to answer, but….
Why are you bothering, especially with a low budget and for this intended audience?
Virtually every DVD player and TV made in Europe in years can read NTSC DVDs just fine.
Also, I’m not 100% on this (you can do a search here in this forum and the FCP forum to
confirm) but I think a 24P conversion to PAL harder to get right than a 29.97 to 25 conversion.
A search will also bring up your question and dozens of answers like mine.

Same here, I put the real cost on the invoice, and then put in the discount.
I don’t have a set rule for how I work with donating my time, it depends on
the organization and the people I interact with at those organizations.
Sometimes it’s ignorance on their part and I let it slide, sometimes it’s
“how much more can I get for free from this person” and I get out quickly.Ed

My guess: 1280×720 TIFFS used in a square pixel sequence are *not* anamorphic, why make them fit into an anamorphic sequence? DVCPro 720P, for example, is actually 960×720. You select anamorphic and it spreads out to 1280. And why do you have it set with lower field first? Why have
*any* fields? The TIFFs aren’t interlaced, do you need interlaced output? As for the text not being correct, how was the text created, at what size?

8 bits to a byte, or as I said, 8 kilobits to 1 kilobyte.
