  • Exporting final project, looking flickery….

Posted by Elliot Pollaro on April 3, 2007 at 3:14 pm

I exported my final project a 28 minute video… it is looking flickery and jagged when i play it back on a tv. It doesnt look like that on the computer.. i have tried many different tvs. What should my final export settings be set to, for best quality? Are there any filters I must use in order to get rid of this jaggy look throughout my project? Also some parts of my video look really dirty… like they have a lot of artifacts in the clips… when they dont look like that on my computer… im working off of a dual g5 with 23 inch dual hd monitors. I know its my export settings im almost positive. This project is to be put on DVD.. anyways.. HELP!!!!

We’ll never know unless you give us some details (PAL, NTSC, interlaced, progressive, SD, HD, format, settings, etc.).
And what are dual 23″HD monitors, do you mean your computer monitors? I assume you mean they’re LCD monitors, but
    how can we know?

They are Dual LCD HD monitors from Apple. I was exporting as DV NTSC 10 BIT Uncompressed with the default settings.

And how do you play 10b Unc in a TV?
It sounds like a interlacing problem. If you are not sure that the field-order is correct in your film, you can check it easyly in AE or Shake.

    NTSC
    Pansonic HVX200
    30 FPS
    DV NTSC
Final Cut Pro default timeline… not sure???
Used the new 23 inch HD Apple Displays dual screen.
    So a computer monitor.

So you shot onto miniDV using the HVX200. Did you have any setting like 480i/24P or 480i/24PA turned on when you shot? How did you digitize the footage?

To give is info on your timeline, select the timeline an hit APPLE-0. What does it say? What is the editing timebase? Compressor? Do you need to render the footage when you put it in your timeline?

I’m still not understanding how you’re playing it back on a TV. Did you burn it to DVD? You can’t export as “DV 10-bit uncompressed.” It’s either DV, or 10-bit. So once you exported it what did you do?

Would you please go step by step on what you’ve done?

    Frame Size: NTSC DV (3:2)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC-CCIR 601/DV
    Field Dominance: Lower (Even)
    Editing Time Base: 29.97
Quicktime Video Settings: Uncompressed 10-Bit 4:2:2
    Quality: 100%

    Video Processing:
    Render in 8-bit YUV
    Motion Filering quality: Normal
Render Control: Filters, Fram Blending for Speed, and Motion blur are checked.
    Render: Fram rate 100%
    Resolution 100%

What i do is i export it as Uncrompressed 10-Bit and put it into a DVD Program and burn a DVD.
Then preview it on a TV

i looked at my rendered file in after effects its showing that there wasnt a field order… it would let me choose one… because there wasnt one set on original rendered clip… so when i export from final cut pro i look at my uncompressed settings and it doesnt say anything about exporting with lower field even.. im just going to re export it from final cut pro… what settings should i use?

export it as what.. and by program do you mean project? just save my project, or actually render the whole thing and export it as a certain file type. Sorry forgive me im still a beginner.. trying to learn as much as possible.

I did what you said and looked at it.. It has improved but on Moving shots the video looks jittery and flickery… im using stock footage and footage we shot… so i know it has to be an export setting … what should my sequence settings be set to… ill try and export it again with different sequence settings.. the sequence setttings right now are set to DV/DVCPRO-NTSC 100% Quality. With a no field dominance setting.
