Don’t know why you’d ever want to degrade a Beat SP image by using DV, but for the other choices,
it depends on what you want (and there’s yet another choice!). 8bit UC works fine for most footage,
10bit won’t help the footage itself, but *will* help if you’re adding a lot of graphics to the footage.
If you’re concerned about drive space, or you don’t have a fast drive array, the DV50 codec is a good choice;
small file size, good looking codec (it almost looks like 8bit uncompressed). Marco Solario has a codecs page

Not sure what you mean by “super ghetto”, they either work good or they don’t. An acquaintance whose company burns tens of thousands of DVDs a year
uses Princo Ritek and Prodisk. I’ve never used Prodisk, but he swears by them.

One more thing about using a filter like Noise Gate: If you have some room noise, put that behind the dialogue. It will help smooth out
the transition between gate and echo.

The DVX100A has 2 kinds of 16:9 built-in, and one as an add-on. One (the least recommended) is a simple letterbox mode. The 2nd is a digital squeeze, which squeezes the 16:9 image onto the tape. The best option is the Panasonic anamorphic adapter, which also puts a 16:9 image onto the tape in 4:3 mode, but looks better than the digital squeeze.

Portability is one of the IO LAs biggest selling points in my humble opinion. Not everyone needs that,
but if you have a PowerBook and an IO, you can hit the road (or the beach).
Getting past the FW latency thing is easier for some people than others. You don’t get latency with the LS, or any PCI card.

Rainer’s suggestion is a good one. Just to add: I had the same problem and turning off the AJA Io LA
for 30 seconds fixed it. AJA says it solves many instances like that.
