What is the best brand of DVDs?
Posted by Howie Young on September 18, 2005 at 5:46 pmHello
I have a G4 733 with the SuperDrive and was wondering what is the best brand of blank DVDs to use?
Also, how do I know if my SuperDrive uses DVD+Rs or DVD-Rs or both?
Thanks
Howie

I would agree. I’ve burned over 300 DVD’s this year on four different Mac’s (two G5’s, Mac Mini, 17″ Powerbook) and have not had a failure yet with my blanks.

September 18, 2005 at 8:19 pmI use the cheapest crappiest DVD’d I can get my hands on and I have not had the Mac turn out a coaster yet. That is to say, I’ve made some pretty crappy disks as I experimented, but the Mac always burned ’em.
One G5 dual 2.5 w/superdrive and one Mac G5 dual 2.7 with the drive that does dual layers

You definitely have a problem. And it’s going to get worse. I’d go ahead and replace your burner. You’re obviously doing a lot of work. You may have just ragged it out. But I’m sure it’s paid for itself many times over. Time to replace it with a faster better one. Just buy a superdrive and stick it in there. It’s very easy. I’ve done it myself on a couple G4s.

Yep, I’ve also used Memorex (in addition to the TDK and Maxell) with great results as well. COSTCO is a great place to purcase 100 DVD-R spindles at a great price.
