FCP will have to be re written for these Intel chips too… Of the pro apps, I’ll wager that FCP has the most to rewrite… Motion is a Cocoa app I believe, but FCP isn’t even close. Its carbon, so will require a tweak for sure.

Cleaner produces wmv 7 files. If you want the latest wmv9 you can buy Flip4Mac WMV Studio for $100USD or Popwire has a $30 wmv9 exporter which
works through any QT program (including Cleaner), they also make Compression Master, which is a more complete Cleaner-like program for $500 USD.
For ragged edges, and if you’re going to use Cleaner, use Image/Crop/Numeric and crop lines off. It will take the edges off the uncompressed image so
you’re not losing quality by scaling a compressed image up.

Do a search in this forum’s archive. There are lots (and lots) of posts about it. The IO uses *all* the bandwidth of the FW400 port (or
enough of it to make it unusable for media drives on the FW800 port. And the FW400 and 800 are on the same buss! Get the FW800 cardbus card.

The 7k500 seems to be a good drive, and there’s nothing wrong at all with putting a different drive
in your G5 as long as you don’t want to stripe it with your different boot drive (because you can’t).
If you’re working in DV-only you should be fine with a single media drive, rather than an array of some sort.
BTW, the 7k500 is a SATA II drive, not SATA 150 (but it’s backwards compatible), and it has a
16MB cache, not 8 (the PATA version has an 8MB cache).

And yes, you can use an external FW drive as your boot drive. I have a G4 MDD with a FW boot drive. I use it
for administrative stuff now, but it was my main FCP station.
