    Hello,

I have a dual 2Ghz G5 at home with an internal 250Gb Maxtor HD. I want to add a second drive to use for editing. I know ideally I should be looking at a Fibrechannel/SCSI/SATARaid or at least a GRaid of which I have both at work and which are great, but I simply can’t afford that. So my question is which internal would suit my set up? Obviously the bigger the better, I’ve been looking at this particular model: 500 GB Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 7200rpm 8MB cache SATA150. But is there a problem with putting in a drive that doesn’t match the original, both in make and size?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Cheers

The 7k500 seems to be a good drive, and there’s nothing wrong at all with putting a different drive
in your G5 as long as you don’t want to stripe it with your different boot drive (because you can’t).
If you’re working in DV-only you should be fine with a single media drive, rather than an array of some sort.
BTW, the 7k500 is a SATA II drive, not SATA 150 (but it’s backwards compatible), and it has a
16MB cache, not 8 (the PATA version has an 8MB cache).
