Some people (not me though) have duplicated their movie and placed them on top of each other, de-interlaced one layer with UpperField,
set the other to 50% opacity and de-interlaced with Lower Field. They report that it looks pretty good. Google “FCP deinterlace film” and
you should get some hits for that, and other, cheap tricks.

If you simply deinterlace you’re throwing away half your resolution. Use this within FCP:

A number of companies have announced various Express Slot34 cards (unfortunately, some cards so far, like FW800 cards, are 54
cards, the bigger sibling. My guess is that within 6 months there’ll be SATAII 34 cards.

It seems that common wisdom says if you’re working in DV, stay in DV, *but*, if you’re adding
lots of graphics, animations, etc., you’ll benefit from going uncompressed 4:2:2. Some folks are going 10 bit UC,
but there are a number of posts on the subject (do a search) that say there is no benefit to 10 bit,
that 8 bit is fine.

I would almost bet that, along with all the 3rd party FW, USB, and SATA Express Card34 options that will
be coming along soon, that there will also be an Express Card34 P2 reader (remember, I said *almost*!)
And I’m not sure what you mean when you say “The existing non Intel 15 and 17 inch laptops, however, still will utilize a PC card slot that will accept the p2 cards.” Still will? The existing ones, of course, have cardbus slots, but I would (here I go again) almost bet that all new laptops (MacBooks)
will have Express34 slots, and they’ll be here soon. The only way to have a built-in cardbus slot is to buy a soon-to-be out of date PB.

Again, yes and no.

The new Apple MacBook Pro utilizes Express/34 cards which are smaller than p2 cards.

Same with Wintel laptops.

Even though I’m looking forward to the reduced weight of the HVX (compared to the big rigs I usually

Not true. There are a number of 3rd party hard drive solutions either out or coming soon. You can record HD
to P2 cards *or* directly to a hard drive, like the Firestore, for example. And yes, you *should* read some posts, it’s
been discussed over and over again.

HD only records to the (very low capacity) P2 drives.
DV (NO DVCAM) to tape.

Ita a DV camera with HD capabilities (limited recording to P2 (PCMCIA cards specially designed by Panasonic, NOt off the shelf).

X-Rays are fine, the new problem is the magnetic resonance machines installed at some airports. They are
generally being used for checked baggage, not carry-on. They use magnetic imaging, which could definitely
play havoc with magnetic tape.
