January 27, 2006 at 2:20 amIf you are talking about a p2 card reader to USB 2, none of them being currently offered that are 32-bit, which is the requirement.
PCI PC card readers are 32-bit, but then they obviously won’t work with a laptop.

January 27, 2006 at 12:03 pmThe application is a single cheap over the counter reader (a la SD/CFcard reader) that you can plug into a G5.
I have seen some cheap China stuff… any confirmations???

January 27, 2006 at 2:20 pmIn the same vein as the above question, with the new Mac laptops (Macbook Pro) having only an Express 3/4 card and not the slot that will fit the P2 card. If we what to dump the P2 card content to the new Mac laptops we will need some sort of Express 3/4,USB or Firewire I/O to Pcmcia card reader. Do such adapters exist, and if so, is the throughput speed fast enough for efficient workflow?
Thanks,

January 27, 2006 at 4:44 pmA number of companies have announced various Express Slot34 cards (unfortunately, some cards so far, like FW800 cards, are 54
cards, the bigger sibling. My guess is that within 6 months there’ll be SATAII 34 cards.

To read P2 cards, or SD or CF cards?
You can get one of the latter at most office supply stores.
A USB reader to read p2 cards has to be 32-bit. I’ve not found one.

Because if it can’t, you may not be able to get your card out of it.
16-bit PCMCIA has a smooth connector. 32-bit PCMCIA/CardBus adds raised dots on the connector; designed to prevent you from putting a 32-bit card in a 16-bit reader. If you do, and you force it in, you won’t be able to get the card back out, at least not without destroying the reader. P2 requires a 32-bit reader, and that’s the device that we’ve been having trouble finding.
