Don’t know about DVD_DX, but there are hundreds of posts in this forum alone that tell you what freeware/shareware is

Oh but the DVCPro50 codec *is* available for PCs:

Avid has one with their NewsCutter.
https://www.free-codecs.com/download/ACE_Mega_CoDecS_Pack.htm this includes the free Matrox DVCPro50 codec for PCs, I don’t know anything

Unless you really need the hard drive savings, or lower throughput, why would you ever convert something to DV? As Alan said, go straight to uncompressed, or even DV50 will look better than DV, and save space.

I’ve “delt” with Wiebetech. They’re a very good company. I haven’t “delt the SilverSATA drives” It’s really the cases that are special, the drives are,
well, drives just like you can buy anywhere. Although they have very good products, the $1,000 price tage for a case without drives seems pretty
high. The advantages are SATAII, e-SATA connector, swappable trays. The disadvantages are, well maybe just one, the price.

My 2 cents:
I have 2 19″ CRTs for my FCP setup, and I’m starting to drool for a Dell 2405. Although the 200 pixels
in height seems like a little thing, having 2 or 3 or 4 video tracks and up to 8 audio tracks in one timeline,
any extra height will be greatly appreciated. A 23″ monitor can also be used as an HD monitor too,
something that will become more important to us as we do more HD stuff (and something a 19″ can’t do).

I’m a bit confused. You used Compressor to compress the footage, then what? It’s a Flash movie, did you compress
it in Compressor, then compress it again to Flash? If so, you took a hit in resolution. Again, if so, why didn’t you use
something like Squeeze to create an FLV directly from the uncompressed edited file?

Hard to say what you might try differently in terms of settings when you don’t say what your settings were.

Please don’t make us tell you! Do a search of the posts in this forum, in the Compression forum, in the DVD Studio Pro forum, in the Web Streaming forum, etc.
There are hundreds, if not thousands of posts that have already answered that question.

Can someone suggest the best compression and encoding that I could use for both formats via FCP 5? Though I’d like the videos to plaly full frame, full speed, I’m not sure that is feasible. Thanks.

Not trying to sell you on the idea, but to answer your comment: The technique I described *gives* you a
progressive image. The de-interlacing of one layer as upper-filed and the other as lower, and then blending
them with opacity, preserves both fields as one *progressive* image. Having said that, buy Graeme’s filter 🙂
