it can be done. dave brown plugins make sidechain compressor, a vst plugin. it is not 64 bit, so you would need to use jbridge if using with 64 bit vegas. the concept is that you insert an instance into the music track, and one into the vocal track. with the correct setting, (i.e. one set to trigger the other) the music is ducked when the voice speaks. you can control by how much and how quickly the music level rises and falls. when you get it right it sounds very professional. I used to use it in vegas 10 and 11. right now I don’t have it installed but will give it a go. sidechain comp is about $40 and jbridge around $15. ps. for most jobs I prefer manual control, even though it takes longer. ed

thanks guys. my original post pointed out that they all cost : from at least £100 upwards. my solution works very well (takes a bit more work from the user though) and won’t cost you anything extra if you use the built-in vegas plugins. skin smoothing isn’t something i need to do a lot of, but if i did i’d probably buy a plugin specifically for it to save time… ed

July 19, 2012 at 9:39 pm in reply to: Dvd architect 5.2 newbie

also, if you use the dvd architect video export, sony advise you to export the audio as a separate file with the same name. dvd architect will automatically match up the files on it’s timeline if the names match. p.s. i have had a lot of trouble with the vegas audio export for dvd, because of the ac3 encoder. the default setting is useless for me (too low, too compressed). i gave up on it after trying all sorts of settings. i just export as a wav file and dvd architect recompresses and it sounds a lot better. i mainly do music so maybe i get more fussy about it… ed

  • soundforge can’t. izotope rx2 has spectrum editing. it can do amazing things, but like all tools you would need to spend time learning it (or pay someone like me who runs a commercial audio/video studio) to do it.all the suggestions from the guys above are good. but sometimes you might have a line of dialogue that you must keep, but a noise (e.g. a bump)happned at the same time. rx2 allows you to go in and remove the bump while retaining desired audio. here is a link to a little job i did for someone, removing mobile phone interference from a wedding video soundtrack, using rx2:

what i would do; play the audio file. use the m key to drop markers wherever you think the picture should change. then simply import your pics and line up the changes to the markers. the markers will probaby be a little late allowing for human reaction time, but it gives you a starting point.ed

a long shot, but try the file import;dvd camcorder function. it works for mt2s so maybe for yours too. also, the manual mentions using device explorer for certain types of hd files… i’m on vegas 11 so 10 might have less options. also; try dragging and dropping directly from windows explorer onto timeline. i find this works with some hard disk recorder camera formats that vegas browser doesn’t even see and list. ed
