skin smoothing; home-made
hi all. was looking for a skin smoothing plugin for vegas (working on a job with an older singer!). hard to find and expensive when found. cheapest good one seemed to be newblue fx, but part of a bundle with other stuff I didn’t want. so i set out to come up with a solution. here it is.
1. import the clip with the video you want smoothed.
2. duplicate the track.
3. mute the bottom track
4. go to top track and insert a chroma key plugin (i use newblue fx one which seems better than built-in sony). split the preview screen so you can select colour for mask.
5. set the mask to skin tone so that the skin is masked out.
6. mute top track
7. unmute bottom track.
8. insert a blur or noise reduction plugin on bottom track. adjust it til you get a smooth skin
9. unmute top track.
10. if all went well, you now have top track providing sharp detail, but the skin will be smooth. adjust it to get either a natural or really smooth look as required.
if you’re doing greenscreen work, you might want to do all the above first and render to avi then reimport with processing done before keying out the green.
