importing .m2v
Posted by Willie Bobo on June 22, 2012 at 7:02 pmI couldn’t see anything in my search results …
I kept the m2v file (along with the iso) of a project in case I needed to pull some pieces of it out later…it’s now later and I need a piece of it but VP10 reports it can’t open it…surely there’s a way right…I mean if it can make one it’s gotta be able to open one yeah?
Thanks,

June 22, 2012 at 7:17 pmGet the free program “Mediainfo” and see what codec was used to make the video file. then install that codec on your PC.
DO NOT INSTALL A CODEC PACK.

June 22, 2012 at 8:05 pmThat doesn’t mean anything. You can select from more than one codec in the Vegas “render as” templates. If Vegas can’t open a video file, it usually means that the needed codec has not been installed on the PC.

June 22, 2012 at 9:37 pmI downloaded mediainfo, unzipped it, and tried to run the exe as an administrator…it flashes for a second and then disappears.
Any suggestions?
Thanks Steve,

June 22, 2012 at 11:02 pmI created a short m2v with v10.e and cannot “import it”.
m2v’s can be created from Vegas but they cannot be used within Vegas.

June 23, 2012 at 12:52 ama long shot, but try the file import;dvd camcorder function. it works for mt2s so maybe for yours too. also, the manual mentions using device explorer for certain types of hd files… i’m on vegas 11 so 10 might have less options. also; try dragging and dropping directly from windows explorer onto timeline. i find this works with some hard disk recorder camera formats that vegas browser doesn’t even see and list. ed

June 23, 2012 at 2:48 pmI agree with Tyson, Vegas will not import m2v files. They are a delivery format for Blu-ray and not an editing format. If you are saving these thinking you can edit them later you should stop doing this and save them to an editing format like XDCAM, HDV, or AVCHD.
