July 6, 2009 at 6:15 pm in reply to: HDCAM Closed Caption Insert?

    Hey Terence,

So because the CC is buried in the AHNC and VANC data,… can I do an audio insert and not damage the CC?

    thanks in advance

Thanks Gary..I thought I was reaching..the 23.98 worked great! We did a test of down converting in compressor, althought it was only a few test clips but it seemed to do the job.

thanks for checking in..appreciate your time.

    take care

  • Hey Michael,

No we bring in everything SDI. You probably could though…as the AVID is seeing the 59.94 stream and then pulling the frames out as it digitizes.

    good luck

  • Hey Michael, I just went thru this… when you set your project to 23.98…select the “film” check box…then inside your project under the settings menu there is a “Film & 24p setting. In that setting you can pic your cadence 2:3:2:3 or 2:3:3:2 and at the bottom you can set your “0” frame to “AA” or what have you.

    Hope this helps

Hey Eric, so it has been a hell of a week of testing…here’s the latest. Because the HDV component is 4-5 min max. Here’s where I am going. We are digitizing the HDV into the NTSC23.98 sequence in the Media Composer(2.7) The editors take the media away and do their offline cut. We get their project bins back after picture lock
in that project bi we get 2 timelines…one of the locked show & one with just the HDV material on it. We send an EDL to FCP and redig at 59.94. We then take the clips and put it thru compressor changing the frame rate to 23.98 making uncompressed QT’s. We then take the QT and import into our 23.98 DS timeline the that is HDV only so we can match shots up, then we drop that into our main timeline and replace the HDV shots with the QT’s.

Crazy!! Thanks for all the help…really appreciate it.

    Hey Eric,
Okay, So the client has gone and shot HDV 1080i 59.94 in 24p mode.(HV30 Canon Camera) I have tested the following:

HDV from HVR1500 into Adrenaline(for offline) OMF to DS…DS would not read TC from HVR1500. Was able to live capture but that defeats offline)

HDV dubbed to HDCAM thru HDSDI & Fire wire…From the offline to the online the OMF that I output did not match up (the offline is a SD 23.98 off line…don’t ask.. and the online is a 1080 23.98 online) I’ve been told to get HDV to HDCAM asap as HDV’s TC sucks. Does you have any experience with this?? I’m using a HDW1800 to play the HDV transfer with. The clock is ticking and I wouyld really like a solution.

    thanks

Okay, I have got the HDV going into the DS but it is reading VITC Funny enough I now realize from my offline test that the Adrenaline was reading VITC & not LTC( I know this because of the TC numbers on my cuts that the DS put on the timeline) I know everyone says that I should be transfering the HDV to HDCAm…and I am going to test that as well, I just thought I would check to see if anyone else had any success in getting HDV into a DS.

    thanks

    Hey Eric,

Have you guys had any luck in digitizing from a HVR1500 HDV deck into an AVID DS? I cannot get the DS to see the HDSDI out of the Deck…I’m wondering if there is a frame size issue that is screwing with the DS..(crazy I know)

    thanks

Yes the SD 23.98 tape that was brought into the HD Sequence ended up being longer than the OMF import…6 frames. The sequence was 58″ long so 6 frames over an hour…6frames/min x 60min = 360 frames/24fps = 15 seconds…Is this correct? All the shots lined up..it’s just long…any more thoughts(other than I’m crazy)???
