On Avid how do you remove frames from DVX-100a “24p/a” footage so that it’s true 23.98 and NOT 29.97 ?
Posted by Pierre on January 28, 2009 at 7:34 pmFootage was shot on a DVX100 in “24p/a”.
They want to cut in a 23.98 timeline for a film out.
In FCP there is a box to “check” to remove advance pulldown upon capture.
My question is how do you do this on AVID?
thank you.

January 28, 2009 at 8:08 pmAlso, in order to get the correct 23.98 cadence is it necessary to capture this 24P/a footage via firewire?
It would be great if we could capture it as HD (or “uprezz” ) and do the advanced pulldown simultaneously. -

January 28, 2009 at 8:18 pm480i/24pA can be edited natively in an Avid 23.976 project, which you select after you click the “new project” tab.
Check out “Tape Formats Both Native and Non-Native” here:

Should be the same for the DVX100.

In order to get the correct 23.98 do you have to capture via firewire?? I’ve read that the “flagged frame information” is only being sent over firewire?
thank you,

January 28, 2009 at 9:57 pmField and frame removal can be done over FireWire, SDI, or analog. Just make sure the Film/24p Settings are correct for your cadence and timecode/cadence relationship.

January 28, 2009 at 10:10 pmMichael thank you.
I’m sorry to ask you this, but is there any way you could tell me exactly where to do this? The exact settings? -

January 28, 2009 at 11:32 pmHey Michael, I just went thru this… when you set your project to 23.98…select the “film” check box…then inside your project under the settings menu there is a “Film & 24p setting. In that setting you can pic your cadence 2:3:2:3 or 2:3:3:2 and at the bottom you can set your “0” frame to “AA” or what have you.
Hope this helps

January 28, 2009 at 11:53 pmHey Michael,
No we bring in everything SDI. You probably could though…as the AVID is seeing the 59.94 stream and then pulling the frames out as it digitizes.
good luck

January 29, 2009 at 12:37 amYou can bring in either way.. SDI or FireWire. It ends up with the same result; a native 23.976 capture.
Set input as per connection to the deck.
Set up deck configuration
Select resolution
Go to Film/24p settings:
– CADENCE (NORNAL OR ADVANCED depending on what was shot)
– TIMECODE to 00:00:00:00 relationship – active and set to “A”Capture away.
