But when I set a “stereo” channel for “left only”, and then play it back, it is not centered and coming out of both speakers. The pan setting on the left side of the timeline is on center. Its just not coming out of the right speaker. When I change it to “right only” i get the opposite result… but not both speakers at the same time.
This is prior to rendering, just playing back the timeline. Maybe this is why, or should i be able to preview it first?

but doesnt that still leave one mic on the left channel and the other mic on the right channel? i want them combined. Maybe i’m not understanding you correctly.
I find it easier to just delete the unused segments rather than mess with the envelopes.

Hi Unzar, I am an instructor in the Air Force in my other job, and we have a jeopardy game show that is set up using powerpoint.
I think that the lag time to do what you are trying to do would drive everybody crazy trying to do it on a DVD. I have a kids game that uses the dvd menus, and navigation is a pain, and waiting for it to catch up is SLOW.
We use this in class for test review questions. It is set up looking like a regular jeopardy screen, then you click on the box (answer) and it is linked to the appropriate slide with the question on it. It is a really great setup, and the links gray themselves out after being selected.
If you would like the file, I would be happy to email it to you. All you’d have to do is decipher how it is set up and change the questions.

Everything can be done, one way or another.
There is an option in powerpoint (2003) to save all slides as jpg files at once, you can then import them into vegas. Fine and dandy if there is no animation in the powerpoint.
If there is animation, you can use a screen capture program such as snagit (www.snagit.com) to capture your powerpoint presentation as it plays. It will save as .avi.
Another option is to play the slideshow with powerpoint on a laptop or computer with a S-video out port, then capture to your camcorder.
OR you can download a program to convert flash to avi.
Pick your poison.

I usually get rid of my master footage a few weeks after a project is complete and approved, IF i think there is no use for stock footage in the future.
I always print to tape the FINAL edited project and keep these somewhat organized.
I also print my personal copy on DVD for display/demo purposes and put them on a bookshelf.
I also keep ALL of my projects (AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS folders) on a hard drive. Just this weekend, I transferred all of them to a 300GB external drive so they are now all in one place. This drive will hold about 70 projects. When it is full, i will just put that hard drive away for safe keeping and pop another 300GB drive in the enclosure.
This might sound like overkill, but it works for me. Gives me easy access if I need to burn additional copies, and I am sure to have the project available in one format or another.
I like the hard drive backup, but i don’t trust them. They fail. I like the DVD copies for easy accessibility, but I don’t trust them either. They get scratched or mysteriously stop working. The tapes seem the most reliable, but chapters have to be re-created, unless I save my veg project and dvda files.
On another note, I always save my titles, photos, and other files related to the project on another hard drive. They dont take up much space, and have come in handy for stock usage, and re-creating more projects for the same customer.

George, I have never had the request, but I would charge them my standard day rate for shooting the footage, then hand it over. Just the same as other work for hire. I have shot weddings for other videographers, then handed them the tapes. I would not charge and EXTRA fee just because they had the masters. I think photographers go a bit overboard with the whole copyright issue, and they are only hurting themselves.

If he doesnt have a DV camcorder or capability to capture the footage from the MiniDV tapes, Your fastest, easiest, and best solution is to just put it on your smallest hard drive, then charge him the cost of a new 300GB hard drive for you to replace it with. It doesn’t even have to be removable or portable, just use a standard one and take it out. Depends on how computer saavy you both are.

If your raw files that are completed are still dv or .avi format, re-rendering with the new material added to a completely new .avi file will not diminish quality.

I do this quite often, and save the entire project onto a new hard disk and new folder.
Whatever folder you specify when you “save as”, it will put all the files there.
