The reason handing a hard drive over to the client works, is because you’ve just saved them money. They get to skip the step where their editor has to “Log & Capture” a tape.
Once you educate the client, the love you!

You mention, “For most freelancers, they need something to hand off to their client, which was one of my points in the first post.”
I DO hand off something to the clients: a $200, 500GB LaCie Quad Interface Drive that has their footage files DL’d onto it. I also keep a copy for myself. Works great.

“halfway decent?” I LOVE my Cartoni Focus. Had it since a year ago August when I got the HVX200. Think it was priced (at the time) closer to $1800, but I believe I got it for $1600 since I was buying the camera and everything else at the time. Had no problems and, IMO, it’s incredibly smooth.

Rennie is referring to the mic switches that you’ll find when you flip open the monitor on the left of the camera (as it faces away from you). You’ll find input selection as well as phantom power for any mic you might have that needs it. As for the line/mic switches, those are in the front of the camera on the right.

I’ve got the Chrosziel and love it. No issues, unless I use it with the Century .75 zoom-through lens and back out all the way. Guessing it’s a mounting issue of sorts.

I’ve had the Century .75 for a little over a year and have been very happy. IIRC, Century also came out with an extreme fisheye about 9 months ago. Runs $2000 or so.
The only area I’ve seen fisheyes used constantly and extensively is for skateboarding-style videos (or other “extreme” sports). They’d be good in music videos, too.
One thing to keep in mind for your shoots when using a fisheye is that, depending on your final window size and compression (since you said this will appear online), you may lose detail from the center of your shot.

October 20, 2007 at 6:43 am in reply to: ibook g4 vs Powerbook G4. Will it work? Why/ why not?The PCMCIA slot in a PowerBook G4 is used to plug the P2 card into for downloading footage. I haven’t heard that the iBook G4 has such a slot.
No – a card reader doesn’t cost thousand of dollars. You’re probably thinking of the P2 Store.
Yes – you can download footage from the camera to a laptop via the firewire connection.

This may be faster (and cheaper) than buying Raylight: it’s a post I remember seeing from a couple weeks ago that tells you how to recreate the LASTCLIP.txt file.

I use my PowerBook G4 (with the PCMCIA slot) and a LaCie 500GB Quad Interface Firewire Drive. Works great through FW 800. And the LaCie costs only around $190 through MacConnection.com.

So, is there a catch?
I notice in July you were selling a new HVX200 for $1000 less than retail. Now a new 16 GB card still in the box for $200 less. I see you’ve posted this elsewhere, too. Sounds like a good deal, but I’m suspicious. That’s a nice price drop. Wassup?
