I heard you need pcmi slots, why? What is the workflow to get the HD footage from the p2 cards onto your laptop, and can I get it onto my g4 ibook, I dont have a powerbook.

    What is the process?

I heard you need an additional card reader which costs thousands is that true?

Can you do firewire from the p2 camera to the g4?

    p.s,

I plan on running my ibook g4 attached to a firewire hub which will allow for multiple firewires, i.e hard-drives, and p2 camera if necessary…

A G4? I would not due to the speed but if you have the will…

Yes hookup firewire to the camera.

You do not “need” slots but it would be easier.

The process is, if you Have Final Cut Studio, is to hook up the camera and hit log and transfer. Final Cut 5 was similar but not as nice.

You do not need an “additional card reader” but the P2 cards only hold so much data. 8-32 minutes depending. P2 card run $800+ and you need 2 of them minimum.

I would never hook my camera to a external FW device but that’s me.

The PCMCIA slot in a PowerBook G4 is used to plug the P2 card into for downloading footage. I haven’t heard that the iBook G4 has such a slot.

No – a card reader doesn’t cost thousand of dollars. You’re probably thinking of the P2 Store.

Yes – you can download footage from the camera to a laptop via the firewire connection.
