When I need quick turnaround – record, get it in the MBPro, rip it off to a DVD, hand over … very RAW and unedited. The quicker, the better.

That and easy to mix with what I’ve captured with the DVX100b

Right, I called Panasonic and they told me to watch out for “gray” market cameras … cam’s that might have been purchased wholesale in other countries and sold here in the US from non-legit retailers.

I believe mine might very well come from Amazon too once I get all the cash together.

I had a friend long ago tell me that the Sony Z1U also had a “Japan” counter part … the Z1J. That’s easy though… (J … for Japan … k, got it) but … PU? or P? I know there’s got to be other letters too…

Hey, yeah, Aarohn Rab. did a podcast on that (the ball action) but I also remember Steve Holmes using Brush Stokes. It’s not as detailed as the Ball Action method but it’s quicker… you can get a Larry King type of back ground pretty easilty.

Brush Strokes, Stroke Length = 1, Density = 0, Randomness = 0,

but the kicker is the “Paint Surface” pop up… change this to Paint on Transparent (or white or black.. depending on what you’re doing, but that way, it’ll knock out the original image from between the ROUND ‘brush strokes’).

— I was playing with it and you can animate your text (I don’t know if this is what the original poster had in mind…) but you can of course, add brush strokes to an adjustment layer. I threw in an image of a world map with a mask on the bottom of that to reveal my animated ‘stock tickers’ … then threw and adj layer on top of the stack with Brush strokes (which is cool to just turn off while you edit the other layers).

Yep, I was just about to offer the same advice. I just changed the second of the things you suggested and it seemed to work. Oddly though, I shot 24p (not the Advanced Mode though) on the Panasonic DVX100b

Oh yeah, I even checked the deck settings (the heads-dirty-all-the-time JVC BR-DV3000 model) and it checked out (DF … for DV)

I shouldn’t be concerned about anything funky, should I ? Like weird audio or ANYTHING associated with the two not really matching (the “two” being FCP and the Deck).

Hey Guys! I just came across what might be the solution.

I ran into the same thing, started rendering clip after clip, and came across a “culprit”
It was a jpg – opened in Photoshop and discovered that this image had a pixel size of larger than 4000 pixels.

I was on a project before where I learned that FCP can’t really play with images over 4K px. So I bumped it down and was good on one image (tried with the *next one* in the time line – had some difficulty on that one (FCP would only render flat GREEN?!) — but fortunately in my case, both images were of the same event so I nixed my trouble-maker and just massaged the lengths of the others and kept truckin’)

Entire time line is now rendered.

Thought I’d chime in with another way to take care of it.

Get this!: You can use Adobe Bridge to Batch Rename not only your still images, but your CLIPS too!

So, you can select all of your clips in within a folder, Command-Shift-R, and Choose the name plus another field for numbers (select two, or three or whatever digits from the pop-up). Hit enter and watch ’em go. I will suggest adding a dash after your first “name” field (to separate the name and the number: name-001)

Hey guys, had the same issue… (single frame where the playhead was parked…)

was totally thrown but knew it couldn’t be *that* big of a deal ( I had moving picture just yesterday, then… not! the single frame thing)

What had arbitrarily happened with me was under the View menu . I went
View > Image + Wireframe … I’m sure a shortcut popped me in that Wireframe mode right under my nose…

So another question that might seem amateur? If I am sending off to a PBS affiliate and drop in the Bars and Tone at -20, does this mean that nothing in my audio mix should exceed -20?

Currently, I’ve edited my timeline to have peaks at around -6 and worked to place dialog between -12 and -6. (some lower dialog goes to -18). Would I need to remix this entire thing? Or would it be a matter of backing off the master fader?

The project is an educational video where dialog is over music for 10 different segments.

I’m getting the same thing. After having my Dual 2.5 G5 go down (It’s at Apple now… they had it for 24 days and it never worked since!) so I needed another mac. I bought the Dual G4 1.25GHz (FW800) and installed FCS2 with the stock config and Mac os 10.4.11. No go. It’s all the same behavior as described previously in this forum.

I started Googling and researching the cards… but I’m *really* afraid that the wrong card would
1) no work anyway
and/or
2) be my luck to fry my logic board. and *this* Mac is of course, out of warranty! I certainly don’t want any issues like that (and it seams like I’m the magnet for such issues in the past 50 days)

Would someone please tell me *exactly* which video card worked? I’m under the impression that the 9800 Pro had two configurations …? a 128 MB and a 256 MB of VRAM model? Is this correct?

Doggone, I found some on ebay… the PC cards are dirt cheap in comparison to the Mac versions (and yes, I found the “use the PC version in your Mac” article. I just don’t know if I have the spine for that. I’ve been burned so hard w/ issues that I just don’t feel at ease yet…
