  • Capturing Problem with 23.98 Drop Frame vs. Non-Drop Frame??

    Hi,

I’m editing on Final Cut 6.0 and trying to batch capture footage using a JVC BR-DV6000 deck. I’m pulling in footage that was shot 24pA (23.98) from an HVX-200. My capture setting is “DV NTSC Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal”. Whenever I try to Batch I’m getting this crazy message that says, “WARNING: You are about to capture Non-Drop Frame Media from a device currently detecting Drop Frame Media. If you proceed you may experience problems…”

If I hit continue the capture does not work.

I don’t understand what it’s asking me to do? I’ve never had to do anything involving settings for Drop or Non-Drop Frame in FCP.

I found ways to set both the deck and Final Cut to Drop Frame or Non-Drop Frame and it doesn’t make a difference. I’ve never had this problem with 23.98 footage before. The only thing that’s changed is that I just had the deck serviced. The repair guy says he didn’t change anything but suggested it couldn’t hurt reverting to factory setting, which I did but no help.

Any idea what could be causing this?

    Please HELP!

    Thanks so much!

I’m having the same problem!I’m getting that warning: you are about to capture NON-Drop Frame media from a device currently configured or detecting Drop-Frame media: Can you please tell me what you did to capture? I’m trying to capture 24Pa footage with a Canon camcorder as a deck.
    Thanks!

[Paul Katz] “‘warning: you are about to capture NON-Drop Frame media from a device currently configured or detecting Drop-Frame media: Can you please tell me what you did to capture?”

You are capturing 24p material (that is always Non-Drop) from 29.97 interlaced content that was recorded Drop Frame

I you can override this issue with a deck – Since you do not mention camera model – I cannot answer whether you could or not with that camera.

    Hi Gary,

How can this issues be solved with a deck? I’m using a JVC BR-DV6000 DV/DVCAM deck. I found a setting to change it to Drop-frame or Non-Drop frame but it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference.

    Thanks for any help!
    best,
    ted

    Hi Gary,
Actually the warning said: “You are about to capture Drop Frame media from a device currently detecting or configured for Non-Dropmedia. The 24Pa footage was shot with a Canon XL2. I use a Canon camcorder as the deck to capture.this deck does not shoot 24p but should not make a difference in capturing…should it?
What I did to capture is User Preferences:Timeline Options: UNchecked drop Frame. Also under Audio/Video settings: device control presets changed that to non Drop also. When I want to use 60i 29.97 footage I will have to change all the above back to drop frame..
    Cheers,
    Paul

Yep, I was just about to offer the same advice. I just changed the second of the things you suggested and it seemed to work. Oddly though, I shot 24p (not the Advanced Mode though) on the Panasonic DVX100b

Oh yeah, I even checked the deck settings (the heads-dirty-all-the-time JVC BR-DV3000 model) and it checked out (DF … for DV)

I shouldn’t be concerned about anything funky, should I ? Like weird audio or ANYTHING associated with the two not really matching (the “two” being FCP and the Deck).

    Thanks
    Drew
