Yeah, I was in CS5. I thought about this….
When AE crashed, it created a second file. (filename_1.aep) right there in the same folder as (filename.aep).
I thought about removing “filename.aep” from the folder and RENAMING filename_1.aep (the one that AE created/recovered as it crashed) to the name “filename.aep.” — of course thinking that Premiere would be referencing THAT latest recovered file.
but 1) wasn’t sure if that file maybe had some other data or something that would not work as smoothly as hoped and 2) certainly didn’t want to “test” on this real project
Not too big of a deal, since I didn’t lose that much time… but thought I’d post it for the masses… maybe someone out there did the “Create an AE project” item in Premiere, and worked meticulously … then AE crashed… and now, they’re stuck! Sometimes, with this stuff, you have “creative accidents” that are difficult to replicate! 😉

Oh man, … ok, so here are the reasons.Bought a Panasonic HMC150
Premiere doesn’t have to transcode to work with the footage.…
That’s the number one reason.
Number two: I use After Effects for titles and things (and though I REALLY wish Premiere had a simple titler for just “tossin’ up some SCRATCH titles), I still love the fact that roundtripping is Awesome with the Dynamic Link thang that Adobe has placed into Premiere. And THAT … has come to be a pretty HUGE factor – a definite plus
But if you want the big thing against FCP – it’s the size of transcoded file! ProRes would be fine but I had a project (the first and only time I used it) that went from 6 GB to over 46! Geez. And I was even quite selective with what I chose to get transcoded!
Not ready to line item all the hard drive costs to clients yet for that. not yet. I’m just not to that size/position yet…
but… after years, I do feel much comfortable in FCP. Still use it for the SD timeline things…

Yeah, I thought that that would have to suffice … I try to think of the things that Premiere does that makes things easier but it seems like there are several FCP-type things that I wish it would do.
I submitted it to the “feature wish list” …

I’m having this same issue. I’m chiming in b/c I have the same machine as Mike, a Dual Quad-Core 2.8 GHz Xeon. Two video cards (which REALLY seem to screw with PremierePro – I’m on CS5). I thought I had inadvertently lost the short cut when I went through the entire list and changed as much as I could to final cut pro shortcuts. But from this post, I should be worrying about that… that the tilde key should be “an embedded” shortcut…
anyway, there’s my two cents… maybe pointless but maybe it’ll help someone think of something…

I had chosen “Use After Effects Lights” … I turned that off and things were fine. BUT any tips on using Comp lights?? Something that has always seemed to give me some fits…
(because that would certainly be the preference for many projects … but maybe that’s another topic though…)

Follow up though…. I didn’t get the message in time and I took off for my holiday travels WITHOUT bringing over the folder of Zaxwerks textures.
I didn’t think it would be a big deal – so I opened AE and did a little work. Now that I’m back home, I just dragged the (newly duplicated) AE file back over to my main workstation and opened it. MY COLORS and TEXTURES are no longer showing on my models in my After Effects project.
Do I need to drag the folder of textures over to my MacBook, open the file there, close it, then copy it back to my main station again??
Or…. is it too late?

Sweet. That’s a cool idea – I’m still really new to Premiere but toyed with that corner pin effect here and there in AE just a little. yeah, that does sound easier.

Hey Jerel,
Opened your post and I think I can help…(try all this then you can COPY / PASTE ATTRIBUTES onto OTHER clips!)
1) Click on your footage and make sure you can see your Effect Controls panel. Now make sure that you move your Anchor Point to the TOP of your video frame. the Y value will be 0
but 2) … so now’ll you’ll have to compensate for moving the Anchor Point and move the Position all the way to the top of the frame again.
Easy to do though since… indeed the Y value will be Zero again!
and finally 3) UNCHECK the “Uniform Scaling” box under the Scaling parameters.
The point of moving the anchor point earlier was to make the image squish from the bottom “TO” the top … instead of what it would have done by default which would be “uniformly squishing”
