  • Can I “heal” a cut like in FCP?

Posted by Drew Hudgins on December 1, 2010 at 9:20 pm

I’m getting used to Premiere. Coming from FCP…

Is there any way to take away a cut or “heal” a cut?

In FCP, there are the two little red bow ties that extend across the two clips… one can rt-click and choose “remove cut” (or something like that)

    Thanks

I believe you’re talking about removing an add edit. Other than doing an “undo”, that feature does not exist for razoring clips in Premiere Pro. Would you like it to be? You can make a feature request: You can file a feature request here: https://www.adobe.com/go/wish . More on how to give feedback: https://bit.ly/93d6NF

Best solution is to delete the second part of the cut then pull the first part across, tiresome and requires mouse work, so not good for speed.

Yeah, I thought that that would have to suffice … I try to think of the things that Premiere does that makes things easier but it seems like there are several FCP-type things that I wish it would do.

I submitted it to the “feature wish list” …

    Thanks guys!

IF you’re comfortable or feel FCP has the tools you need, why do you use PP?

    Hey Peter,
Oh man, … ok, so here are the reasons.

    Bought a Panasonic HMC150
Premiere doesn’t have to transcode to work with the footage.

    That’s the number one reason.

Number two: I use After Effects for titles and things (and though I REALLY wish Premiere had a simple titler for just “tossin’ up some SCRATCH titles), I still love the fact that roundtripping is Awesome with the Dynamic Link thang that Adobe has placed into Premiere. And THAT … has come to be a pretty HUGE factor – a definite plus

But if you want the big thing against FCP – it’s the size of transcoded file! ProRes would be fine but I had a project (the first and only time I used it) that went from 6 GB to over 46! Geez. And I was even quite selective with what I chose to get transcoded!

Not ready to line item all the hard drive costs to clients yet for that. not yet. I’m just not to that size/position yet…

but… after years, I do feel much comfortable in FCP. Still use it for the SD timeline things…

Actually you can remove edits without having to go through the Undo History or continously hitting “Command” + “Shift” + “Z”. Just select where the edit is that you’d like to remove and hit the “delete” key and voila its gone!
