Boris Red can be used as a stand alone or as a plugin for FCP. I’m not sure that Boris FX can be used as a stand alone. Boris Red is like FX and Graffiti combined so it might be worth considering. I use Red regularly with FCP and wouldn’t want to edit without it.

No, you shouldn’t need to add setup. Some DVCAM decks have an add setup menu setting so you can add it, if desired.

Does the DSR-20 have an add setup menu setting? If it does and it’s not activated, that might be the problem.

You can install the analog settings without harming the SDI settings. It will just provide more settings to choose from.

Are you sure you installed the analog settings for the IO? If I recall, the SDI and analog settings are different installs with the IO. You have to install both sets to have the full set of analog and digital presets for the IO.

You could also send the audio over to Soundtrack Pro and use the normalize feature. It’s outside of FCP but it is an alternative that I recently used with great success.

Open the graphic in the viewer, go to motion tab and turn on the drop shadow check box. Adjust opacity, depth and softness to taste. That should take care of it.

July 19, 2006 at 9:30 pm in reply to: Project file would not open after rendering, but got it open againHave you updated Boris Red in the last several months? Hopefully you updated to Red 3.04. The newest version 3.05 doesn’t work on FCP 5.0.4. It may be that Red had some issues if you were using a version older than 3.04 with FCP 5.0.4. I’m not sure if you can still get the Red update to 3.04 from Boris since their website doesn’t list that update for Mac.
You may also have had a corrupt clip or clips since that will sometimes mess things up in a nest or on the timeline.
Hopefully all the bugs are worked out now.

April 5, 2006 at 8:13 pm in reply to: restoring LiveType and Motion projects from FCP fileThese are LT 2 files and Motion 2 files. I’m not sure why I can’t reopen the files listed in the FCP browser. They have the correct extension .ipr or .mot depending on the application which created them. I don’t have the original files anywhere else since the drive they were stored on was erased. Shouldn’t I be able to reopen a LT or Motion file from the browser in FCP?
