Couple of questions (assuming the footage was captured with FCPX via FireWire, yes?):

If you play back the captured footage directly in QuickTime, do you still have a sync issue?
If so, does the audio get progressively more out-of-sync as you go further into the clip (in QT)?

Wow. Maybe something to do with OS-level auto-save… are you running 10.7 or 10.8?

Just ran into this Exact problem… here’s what I did:

Ingest via FCP L&T – After ingest, files pretend to be 29.97 progressive, but have pulldown.
Bring DVCProHD files into Compressor – I’m transcoding to ProRes, too.
Check clip’s A/V Attributes – change each file from Progressive to Top First.
Set up my preset as usual, with frame controls set to Reverse Telecine.

Presto! Nice, clean 23.976 progressive video.

    YMMV

This is also something that I’ve been looking for. I have dozens of drives with hundreds of projects…. all catalogued and searchable in the Finder or via CDFinder [NeoFinder].

Previously, with ingest via Log and Transfer, every clip would get a new name with job number, location, and content. Finder info already has the created date, so I don’t really want that to be the default filename.

Rename clip in Finder would be nice – some option to rename on ingest would be nicer. For now, it’s the ol’ Log and Transfer I guess.

  • [Vincent D'Angelis] “I have a couple of people who want me to edit work for them, but I’m thinking there has to be a better way to have these people somehow get me their media online (without me driving over to their house with an external hard drive)??

    Any recommended ways/sites?

someone mentioned to me “drobox” – but would I totally need to compress the video and stuff like that to use this? – also it was like $100 for just 50g of space… which isn’t a lot of space for video…

When I’m gathering assets from locals (within 20-30 miles), it’s quicker to drive over and transfer the footage – or, more typically, I’ll have them drop off a drive here, and they pick it up when I’m done with the transfer. Anything farther away, and it’s a choice between yousendit/ftp/dropbox, or shipping a portable drive. If it’s just a couple of files / GB, then download works. Anything larger, and shipping becomes the choice.

    Hey Mark,

Are you going for 15 minutes of silence as your audio, or are you wanting the AVI file to mute the actual soundtrack for your film during playback?

Also… AVI? Which audio / video codecs are you stuffing in there?

June 8, 2012 at 3:28 pm in reply to: Cannot burn a second DVD from FCP, ever

    Hi Tracy,

I can’t say why it hangs on the second DVD, as I avoid sharing from FCP.

My workflow for DVD looks (generally) like this:
Export timeline as reference movie (not self-contained), using current timeline settings
Fire up Compressor and encode reference QT to .m2v and .ac3 files
Create DVD in DVD Studio Pro, burn a proof copy to test, then save as disk image

This typically takes less time than going to DVD directly from FCP, and I gain the added benefit of a .img file that I can replicate quickly on any machine with a DVD burner (all of them, in my case).

Is there anything being written to the Console during the hang?

April 13, 2012 at 2:41 pm in reply to: Project File Unrecognized “Wrong File Type”

“Open the corrupt .fcp in TextEdit saved it as “.txt” Take that file and change it’s extension back to .fcp and it should be good to go. There might be some reconnecting to do but it’s all there.”

    This works – FCP 7.0.3 / 10.6.8

    Thank you!
