Full system hang / crash could also be due to bad RAM or video card.

In addition to checking and repairing the disks, you should also run the extended hardware test.

Something else that I do once or twice a year is open the machine, thoroughly blow out all of the dust, and re-seat RAM and all the cards. Make sure it’s unplugged, naturally. ;o)

As a side note, I’ve never been satisfied with Apple’s pitch shifting – always sounds wobbly and makes me a little queasy…. I’ve been using Audacity for pitch / tempo shifting, which does a much nicer job of things.

With your exported video file open in QT Pro, hit ‘Command – J’ (or, from the Window menu, choose ‘Show Movie Properties’.

There, with the topmost line item selected, you will see a tab for ‘Annotations’. The Title annotation is the one displayed at the top of your movie window.

This is exactly why I keep QT 7 Pro on my machines. ;o)

Could be that your source audio files have different sample rates… I’ve noticed (for a long time, actually) that unless you bring in audio files with matching specs, you’ll occasionally get junk like that on output.

    Hi Don,

That may be the case in some instances. However, I also experience this issue when applying certain transitions to introduce or remove logos / graphics. No text (or drop zones) involved – just a simple, connected graphic.

I really need to RTFM all the way through…

Would be nice if the A and B sides of the built-in transitions were published toggles…

  • Could also open up the exported 4444 file in QTPro 7 and check the video track’s ‘Transparency’ setting prior to bringing it into Premiere… I can’t test this right now, though.

  • In FCP prefs, you can also set one of your ‘Share’ destinations to be the current frame, and also set the file type of the saved frame. That, combined with the Automator idea seems like a pretty tidy solution.
