I’d be wary of exporting with original clip names, just because you’ve already got files with those names on the drive. Should you ever need to relink, it’ll cause confusion and trouble. Better to add a prefix or suffix to differentiate.

Yes. Since you’re looking at the properties of an individual clip, FC shows you available options based on what’s in the file, as opposed to your projects where you get to determine the output (whether you have the channel coverage or not).

You can import surround / multi-channel audio files (many of the included SFX are surround files).

What you’re describing sounds like phase cancellation, maybe due to misinterpretation by FCP as to what’s actually in the file.

Can you clarify what ‘mercilessly modified’ entails?

Do you have a copy of Media Info or Invisor?

As a general rule, always reformat new drives before use.

Start with GUID partition map. If you’re using an SSD, format APFS. If it’s a mechanical drive, use HFS+.

That’s the new default panel in 11, but you can set it to whichever one you prefer:

Settings -> General -> Color Correction

It’s all good!

In the zipped file you’ll find (for each project) 2 screenshots from FCP7, a straight XML export, a Batch List, and a .fcpxml conversion file.

Also made a new Library and imported all the .fcpxml files. I’m on 11, so if you’re not current you should be able to re-import the .fcpxml files into whichever version you’re running.

FCP7 relies on QuickTime 7, which requires Sierra or earlier. Since your MBP is a 2017 model, looks like High Sierra is the earliest OS that’ll run on it.

I just did a casual test on the laptop, lost patience, and did the update on the Studio. So far so good!

I’m in the middle of a pretty basic project right now, and the magnetic masking would come in really handy, so I’m pretty eager to install this update (barring any show-stoppers).

I typically don’t upgrade mid-project, but haven’t seen anything negative so far.

It should look like your raw camera files – have you looked at those outside of FCP?

Your problem is that you’re editing from the flash drive. It is most likely formatted ExFAT, and strange behaviors will not stop until you copy the files to a different, APFS or HFS+ formatted drive (GUID partition map, too).

Best to get an external Thunderbolt SSD that is properly formatted, and edit off of that.

I think you’re applying 360º versions of those effects. They can be unpredictable if you’re not editing on a 360 timeline.

Remove/replace with non-360 effects.

Okay, next thing I’d try is this:

1. Reboot the machine

2. Open the problem library in FCP

3. Select the library itself in Final Cut’s browser, and relink all of the files/original media

4. Re-test
