Hi everyone, has anyone experienced using multiple magnetic masks on the same clip in Final Cut Pro 11 and noticed that playback stutters? The strange thing is that even after rendering the clip, it still plays back with stutters. The only way to view it correctly is to export it.

    Hey Frank,

Have you tried to set the Viewer’s quality setting to prioritize performance? It might help.

I’ve not tried multiple magnetic masks on a single clip… what hardware are you running?

Never had that kind of problem. Even on a slow iMac, it plays very well. What are the properties of the video, 4K, 50P, etc. maybe it is a processor-intensive codec. Maybe you just need a restart. 🙂

I’m using a 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip. If I apply a single magnetic mask to the clip, there’s no issue. The problem arises when I apply two or more masks and add some additional effects or clips on the upper layers. The footage is 4K 24p ProRes LT. However, the strange thing is that even after rendering the clip, it still plays back with stutters.

The first thing that comes to my mind is Prores LT. That’s not a codec I prefer. I had similar problems many years ago with just regular clips with no effects. I am not sure but can you try it with another video with another codec and see the result?

I don’t think it’s a codec issue. I’ve tried creating Proxy files H264, but it didn’t make any difference. Again, the strange thing is that even after rendering it, it still plays back with stutters.
