  • Why does FCPX stops when I try to copy and paste some clips?

Posted by Suan k. Seol on August 14, 2024 at 6:13 am

First, I tried to copy some clips to another timeline in the same library.

It showed the message, ‘you’re moving clips between libraries… etc.’ (don’t remember exact wording, I stopped the message.’

When I clicked ok, FCPX stopped.

I reopened, and tried to copy the clips at the end of the same timeline instead. It showed the same message with ‘between libraries…’. I didn’t even try to go to different timeline!

Everytime I try to copy and paste some chunk of clips It would stop.

    What could this be?

Without seeing the full error, or a screen recording of the steps taken to achieve it, I’d suggest beginning by resetting the app’s preferences. From Apple:

You can reset Final Cut Pro settings to their original values.

    • Press Option-Command while opening Final Cut Pro.

Final Cut Pro resets the settings and adds a file named VideoAppDiagnostics-FinalCut to the desktop, containing a record of your previous settings.

    Thanks Doug,

Tried resetting FCP by deleting preferences while opening.

But same thing happens.. I don’t get the error message any more, which is pity.

    Hm. Very strange.

Okay, next thing I’d try is this:

    1. Reboot the machine

    2. Open the problem library in FCP

    3. Select the library itself in Final Cut’s browser, and relink all of the files/original media

    4. Re-test
