My virus protection software is up to date and working. I just can’t seem to figure out the problem.

Virus protection and video go together like peanut butter and tomato sandwiches.Disable virus protection while working with video. Chances are high this will fix your issue.

I would suggest that you’re loading .avi and .mov files that contain weird/unsupported codecs. .avi/mov are not codecs, just containers of codecs. what is the source of your problem files? Ripped DVDs, recorded screen captures, torrents?

If you have the VASST Ultimate S plugin tool, you can use the frames feature to speed this up as much as you’d like, only one render ever needed, and it’ll play back at preview speed, always.

no third party software required. We edit the HMC 150 footage regularly. We just released a training DVD for this camera, shot with this camera and edited in Vegas.
AVCHD is not the best greenscreen/keying format, but it can be done nicely in Vegas. It can be done better in After Effects, but that will require a transcode.Douglas Spotted Eagle

You don’t need the accelerated graphics. But the MacBook Pro with Bootcamp works GREAT with Vegas. I’m using one daily.
Vegas will play back AVCHD files at full speed with no issues. Full resolution is dependent on the system. My old MBP plays files at Good/Full without issue. I often edit straight off the card.Douglas Spotted Eagle

you can embed videos in just about everything now. PDF is a great way to embed video for training. You could also deliver in HTML with flash files. Or, use a standalone player that reads chapters.

Because you’re recompressing recompressed media. Do the initial editing at 1920 and keep it as pristine as you can, for as long as you can. Recompression of recompressed media is *always* a poor plan.

why render to QT? in MPEG, which presets are you using? Same question for avi?

what do you mean by “extracting” the video?
Are you rendering to uncompressed formats?

Use track motion and keyframing to “zoom” one full over the other.
