  • Problems with Vegas 9 and Vegas 8 reading .mov and .avi files

I have a strange problem, I like to work on both Vegas 8 and Vegas 9 simultaneously, it’s something which I do a lot.

Anyways the problem I have is that Vegas 8 doesn’t seem to be able to compile the audio for any, I mean ANY .mov files, yet these same files always show up in Vegas 9 audio and video so the .sfk is created.

However what’s even stranger is that many of my .avi files which are detected by Vegas 8, audio and video, some of them in Vegas 9, neither the video or audio show up, sometimes just the video shows up.

It’s nothing major as I tend to work around it, but I would still like to overcome this issue.

Could you guys provide any links or any info to help me out?

    Thanks a lot.

I would suggest that you’re loading .avi and .mov files that contain weird/unsupported codecs. .avi/mov are not codecs, just containers of codecs. what is the source of your problem files? Ripped DVDs, recorded screen captures, torrents?

The .mov files are trailers and tv spots for movies. The .avi files usually movie featurettes. The problem is that usually one version of SV detects one and other versions detects the other.

I have installed a codec pack, do you suggest I install the pack and just download the individual codec? Or find a different version of the codecs?

Hi, I am using Vegas 8.0c. I have video from a Kodak Play Sport, 1080p, 29.97FPS 8.13 mbps, H.264 1280×720 48 kHz .MOV (Quicktime) AAC
This is the first HD I am working with and when I import or drag and drop it loads black video and no audio. I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer and would like some help to figure out what I am doing wrong. I have set the “new” parameters to accommodate the video size but to no avail.
