Choose NTSC Widescreen DVD Architect template
Choose “Custom”
Set bitrate depending on length of project. If it’s short, then 8500 is plenty high.
After you render the video, you’ll need to render the audio to an AC3 file as a separate render. Put both finished MPEG and AC3 file in same folder, using same name, with only the file extension being different.

Apparently I’v missed on a discussion; what is it you’re trying to achieve? burning to DL is no big deal with DVD Architect, nor is building a DDP file for a replicator to burn a dual layer disc. We do this nearly every day.

One suggestion that is predominantly audio-only…
Begin with power music that drives and moves whatever text, imagery, or graphics you might have.
At a peak point in the music, cut music to 0, insert a long “mooo” with virtually any image over it. The change up in audio dynamic will grab the viewer’s attention immediately. It’s a nice shock effect you can get away with once, sometimes twice.Douglas Spotted Eagle

No, Vegas 7 does not emulate color. Nothing really does. It was a unique product before Apple bought it, it’s a unique product now that Apple owns it. Nothing quite so deep is available for most products.

PAL DV in avi wrapper is the correct format in which to capture.
If you don’t have a converter, I’d recommend renting or purchasing the Convergent Design converter system. Best I’ve ever seen, and I’ve installed quite a few in broadcast facilities.
Vegas will recognize the Convergent box immediately.

The real question on your HDV cam is; are you getting the signal output before or after the compression stage. Have you hooked up the HDMI to a TV while in camera mode to verify if that output is active in that mode?
All HDV camcorders with HDMI are outputting a post-compression signal at this point in time. Some are 8 bit and others will be/are 10bit with the last 2 bits set to null.
All of them are active in camera mode, still mode (if the cam offers it) and playback modes.Even if it is, you may not see any advantage over capturing live via firewire.

Taking vid from Vegas to AE regularly; not a big deal.
Sequential PNGS, TGA, Sheer codec uncompressed, all work well. Only problem most folks have is exporting the Sony YUV, which AE won’t read.
Uncompressed is tough for most machines, unless you’ve got a serious RAID.Douglas Spotted Eagle

You’ll find a bigger difference with CineForm when you go to push color, composite, etc. If you’re merely doing cuts only or light transitions, then CineForm vs native HDV likely isn’t of serious value to you.

You’ve got to be able to sustain a read/write rate of around 200MBps. A laptop can’t make that happen, AFAIK, and a PCMCIA bus won’t manage that sort of speed.Over HDMI, 4:2:2 1920 x 1080 is approx 1.5Gbps
That’s not an insignificant number. 🙂And yes, contrary to another post in this thread, there is a *significant*B> difference in capturing 4:2:2 over HDMI vs capturing the MPEG2 stream via Firewire. HUGE difference.
