Just wondered if you ever managed to resolve your problem with Architect and burning Dual Layer discs Terry. I’m having the same problem, burn hangs at 52% which I guess is the layer change point.Hoodlum replied 18 years, 12 months ago 4 Members · 9 Replies -

August 9, 2007 at 2:47 pmNever have gotten it resolved, but have not tried very hard. I actually got the entire disc to burn but couold not get it to play past the break on any DVD pplayer. I don’t do many long projects and can usually fit my programs on a SL without lowering the bitrate too much.

August 9, 2007 at 2:58 pmMMMM!. Not good news but thanks for the reply. At least I know I’m prolly whistling in the wind trying to get Architect to do it. Thanks again.

August 9, 2007 at 3:31 pmApparently I’v missed on a discussion; what is it you’re trying to achieve? burning to DL is no big deal with DVD Architect, nor is building a DDP file for a replicator to burn a dual layer disc. We do this nearly every day.

August 9, 2007 at 4:54 pmI’m trying to burn a 5.5GB file to a Verbatim +R Disc. But DVDA hangs at 52%. The video is a 2 hour ballet in 2 acts. I have chapters at the beginning, End of Act 1 (1hour and 5mins)and Beginning of Act 2 (1hour and 10 minutes). I selected automatically create layer break. It hangs around the middle of the burn.

August 9, 2007 at 6:16 pmI’d change media in that case. I do use Verbatim when I’m out of Sony or TY, but have had problems in the past with it. I’m using a cheap DVD burner, not sure of the brand.
If different media doesn’t fix the issue you might try forcing the break point for experimental purposes.Douglas Spotted Eagle

August 9, 2007 at 6:41 pmI would like to DUPLICATE not REPLICATE, Douglas.
“We do this nearly every day.”…..
….Wanna give me a clue as to your everyday workflow? -

August 9, 2007 at 9:38 pmDuplicate or replicate, it’s all exactly the same until it comes time to output.
Workflow?
Render timeline in Vegas to whatever bitrate I’m going to use for DL media. One project we recently finished completely filled two DL discs, and barely fit, which means that each disc has bitrates of approx 5Mbps. But I digress….
Import all files to DVD Architect.
Set project prop’s to dual layer settings.
Author disc.
Insert blank DL disc, usually a TY +R or Sony +R.
Press the “Burn Disc” button.
Choose the layer breakpoint on a chapter if possible, otherwise allow DVDA to select the breakpoint.
Burn the DVD.
That’s it.If I’m outputting for replication (which isn’t daily, but weekly), then I choose “MASTER” as opposed to Burn. In there, I create two DDP discs, one for Layer 0 and the other for Layer 1. This is what goes to the replicator we use.
Does that help?

August 10, 2007 at 3:47 pmWell that was close!! Made my deadline with 15 minutes to spare after a week. Imgburn got it first time GeorgeW. I’d completely forgotten about that software. BIG THANKS!! I’m off to the pub now and after some sleep, try to figure out why Architect wasn’t having it.
Do TY make DL discs Spot?
