Drag the subclip to the Media Manager as you would a standard piece of media.
yes, I do use the Media Manager for stock footage, and that’s about it, but it is a powerful tool, no doubt. It’s why we put out a VASST training disc on the media manager.

Not quite.
DV is a lossy format. There are various DV codecs, however.
Sony’s is amongst the very best, and can withstand a lot of recompression before degradation is visible.
AVI is a wrapper. It can contain a DV codec or other codecs.All that said…if you edit cuts-only, a rerender of the DV content is not affected. It is a bit for bit render with no recompression. However, the moment you touch a pixel in a frame ie; color correction, pan/crop, track motion, title overlay, etc, the frame must be recompressed.
The good/best settings do affect the file; they affect how the renderer looks at the file content. Using “Best” for DV that hasn’t been spatially changed doesn’t really offer any quality difference, but does offer longer render times.

you could, yes.
However, you’ll likely be better off overall correcting using white, black, and grey/neutral point in the three-wheel corrector, so that you’re balancing all of the image.Douglas Spotted Eagle

If you’re editing straight off the disc vs transfer to HDD, the markers can’t go back to the disc. But they should be going back/remaining with HDD files.

Excalibur has a script feature to do this.
Or, right click and open in Trimmer, then increase the selection.
Or, delete the section to the right of the split, and drag the left half out to fill the empty space.

Nothing special to set up at all, Allen. You’ll appreciate how it works. We have one for VHS dubs as well, although I’ve come to prefer the Convergent Design SD Connect, the Canopus is still a very nice box.

Vegas does not allow you to draw motion paths ala AE or Combustion.

I ended up doing it based on what I saw in my ‘puter.

The h.264 container from Vegas is QT. It’s not a .mov extension.
Not sure why this matters to you, unless you have a player locked down to only open .mov.Douglas Spotted Eagle
