    Hi,

I’m working on Vegas on a documentary. The tapes (shot on DV) are already digitized in 45/60 min files making about a project of 250g source files.

Now I would like to use media manager to organize this material (adding tags like themes, subject, character..) but here’s what i don’t understand about this seemingly powerful tool:

(this is my understanding of the tool, please let me know if I’m wrong)

    1. Media manager works by attaching info to the files on the drive. In other words, when I add a tag or info to my clip in media manager (lets say: “red”) it adds “red” to the WHOLE clip. If my file is a 45min clip of blue, red, green and yellow elements, there is no way to locate the timecode info containing “red” elements within this clip.

+ Is there a way to import subclips in the media library? If not, is my only solution to cut down my clips in smaller chunks?

I feel like the media manager could be an incredibly powerful tool. Adding as many tags I want and then searching by whatever I’m looking for no matter where it is located on my drives, or whatever the name of the clip is etc…

But wouldnt it be so much greater if i could add that tag at the 3rd minute of my clip and then another one at the 8th minute and so forth? So when I type in “red”, it doesnt only present me with the clips that contain “red” but also the exact moments within this clip!

So is there a workaround this problem?

Am I the only one seeing the tremendous potential of that tool? Maybe I’m not understanding exactly the purpose of the media manager.. (is it more about the ability to use the library on other vegas projects?)

Ok let me know what you guys think and what’s your typical workflow in terms of organization!

    Thanks!

Sorry no one here has been able to answer your questions.
Perhaps try posting it to the DMNforums.com
They have a Vegas forum there.
In addition Johnny Renfro has a instructional DVD
that exclusively explains the Media Manager and how to use it.
You can find it at VASST.com and enter Media Manager in the search box. I do think that the media manger will be valuable to you as you work on your project. I have seen post by those who are doing large project such as your and were very happy with what it did for them.

    Regards, Rick.

Drag the subclip to the Media Manager as you would a standard piece of media.
yes, I do use the Media Manager for stock footage, and that’s about it, but it is a powerful tool, no doubt. It’s why we put out a VASST training disc on the media manager.
John Rofrano is a database wizard, and he’s figured out some amazing things with the Media Manager.
