  • Problem saving regions MXF files?

Posted by Chris Young on August 25, 2007 at 5:13 pm

Here is one for the diehards. At this point in time if I use FAM mode with XDCam HD, or STD Def, I find I cannot save ‘Region’ markers with the file when creating regions in the trimmer, even though ‘Save Markers & Regions with File’ is selected in preferences. When you click on ‘Save Markers’ in the trimmer Vegas (v7.0e) it says something to the effect of ‘Unable to save markers as file is write protected or off-line’. AVI files are fine but not MXF files. Any clues anyone?

Unless I am doing something stupid, that’s quite possible, it appears it may be a bug worth reporting to Sony. Before I do though I just wanted some feedback. BTW, FAM mode just kills tape digitising IMHO. 2.4 times as quick on average on getting the material in, bullet proof reliable too, luv it!

If you’re editing straight off the disc vs transfer to HDD, the markers can’t go back to the disc. But they should be going back/remaining with HDD files.

Hi DSE, long time no see since your visit two trips ago to Aussie.

No I think you misunderstood me Doug, probably not clear enough on my part.

The files have been brought in to the system via FAM mode and are residing on the AV drives just like all the other AVI’s. Now if I have an AVI in the Vegas trimmer I can create ‘Regions’ and they will save back to the file. If I now pull these files up into Vegas the Regions are there as I expected. I have tried this with HDCam MXF files and no way will it work, ‘File write protected or off-line’ error dialogue if you try. A BUG me thinks! Will file a report with Support and see what they say.

BTW, good to see you back at the COW.
