  • Anyone else had problems rendering nested projects?

I recently completed a 95 minute prom video. Early on I decided to edit it in small sections and then after all sections were edited pull the veg files up into a master timeline for rendering. This is where I started having problems. The individual veg files would open with no problem.
But once I tried to render, after a while the render would stop and say there had been an error. It never stopped in the same place twice and the error messages were different.
I was rendering DV to mpeg-dvda stream. Then I tried rendering dv to dv, same result, stopped with error.
I could never find a pattern to it all.
Not having time to play with it anymore I batch rendered the individual veg files to dv, then pulled all of them into a master project for render without a single problem.

Anyone out there had problems rendering nested projects?
If so, where you able to figure out how to make it work.
I really liked the nested workflow if it would have rendered for me.

    Thanks, Rick.

Sometimes, some systems…nested veg files can tax your proc or system resources. I’ve found that setting threads to 1 or 2, generally makes this render hangup go away. i’ve got a monster project that has several nested XDCAM HD veggies in it that chokes if I don’t set Dynamic RAM to 0 and threads to 1.

Concur – couldn’t render a 1080p project until I set the threads to 1 and memory to 128

    Douglas,

As usual your advice was SPOT on (pun intended).
Pulled that big nested project back up and set Vegas
Options as you suggested. The entire thing rendered without a hitch. How in the world did you ever figure that one out?
Thank you, thankyou. Now that I know the trick I can use nesting a lot more. You da man.

    Thanks again, Rick.

I ended up doing it based on what I saw in my ‘puter.
Then I talked to a Sony engineer and his comment was “You didn’t know that already?” 🙂

[DSE/Spot] “Then I talked to a Sony engineer and his comment was “You didn’t know that already?” :-)”

Sounds to me like you need to write another book. Possible titles.

    Vegas – Secrets
Vegas – Settings the manual did’nt tell ya.
Vegas – Tips & Tricks from the trenches.

I’m still waiting for a really good one on Network Rendering
    and Decklink Workflows.

By the way, I have been reading HDV-What you need to know, and am learning much for that jump to HDV.
Also, my copy of Vegas Editing Workshop is my Vegas Bible. I can’t tell you how much that book has helped me.

Between VASST teaching tools, excalibur, and Edward Troxel
(my neighbor, I’m in tall cotton.

    Regards, Rick.
