I’ve rendered plenty of HD shows without a hiccup. when there have been hiccups it’s usually with an errant file, usually a graphic or a scanned photo, sometimes with ill prepared audio, sample rate or filetype.
trouble shooting can be difficult. often the trouble doesn’t get shot, the person doing the troubleshooting does.
select a range of elements in the timeline and render selection. eventually you’ll narrow down the offending item, take steps to prep it correctly and move forward.
I wish FCP was 64bit, I wish I could paint live in FCP I wish there was field rendering.
Someone is attempting to sell a bill of goods. The adobe suite is excellent for a lot of reasons but video editing and bluray burning could take a lesson from apple re ease of use and intuitive action.
then again if it’s an HDV project rendering in HDV I couldn’t tell you. I transcode on injest or bounce to HDCam tape before injest for that stuff

  • is “reconform” the wrong word to use when talking of replacing the ProRes with the original H.264?
Yes the operation you describe would be called a conform. Usually used for an offline/online situation where an offline codec is used to edit, then an xml, EDL or reconnection of media using the highest quality available source footage takes place based on the TC/reel number from the edit.

reconform would assume a conform had taken place already and you were doing it again.
you have merely transcoded then edited in your case.

Glad you were able to convince your people to skip the return to h264. Totally unnecessary.

  • something is wrong with your Qmaster settings/sharing you should look there. The droplet is trying to send the job thru qmaster and there is something amiss.
You might want to try compressor repair thanks to the good folks here

July 14, 2010 at 1:36 pm in reply to: KONA 3 cross convert 720p24 to 1080i with HDCAM SR

The other option if you plan to keep a 23.98 master would be to output 23.98 to the SR then re-injest at 29.97 with SR doing the frame rate conversion (1080iPD)

  • How right you are re if all you got was time code for $900
I’m amazed at how much you get with the purchase of FC Studio.
Thanks for the plug in tip

  • interestingly FCE does retain tracking of TC and reel numbers it just has no provision for displaying it.
opening an FCE project in FCP will have all the TC edit information there and it can be reliably used for edl / omf etc. It costs $900 to see TC.

  • Glad you got it resolved. now that it’s working pref manager can make a backup for you that you can restore at will, not if prefs get corrupted but when. Good time to create a backup, when it’s working.
best of luck with your project

  • I understand…fair enough. Old guys react to things they see that concerns them.
You have tried trashing your prefs etc? If not make some notes about your settings and use this
    https://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm
    If you have done that..
If you can get to one sequence that will not playout the mixes you have made and preferably a short one
turn off half the audio tracks and test again. if that works turn on a pair of tracks at a time until it doesn’t work that will be your offending track.
if turning off half the tracks still doesn’t yield success continue turning off half of them and obviously the offending tracks will be in the group you turned off last. it may be corrupt waveform cache files which won’t let you place keyframes or a bad clip. It sounds more like prefs tho. or not enuff realtime tracks enabled

  • You state that this is the offline. What are your online plans?
If you go into a scratch system for example you will need an EDL
The way FCP handles a nest is that a sequence dropped into a sequence becomes a single event.
your setting yourself up for trouble.
If you have to have sequences per scene ’cause someone is demanding it at least copy and paste the scene sequences into a master sequence and make markers your friend.
Did the now “off the project editor” design the workflow?
