  • Importing to FCE from FCP (no TC or media sources show up)

Posted by Ac Warden on July 9, 2010 at 2:55 pm

    Hi
I am writing a script and using FCE 4 while the other editor is using FCP 7. I can import video and audio that was captured in both FCP 4 and FCP 7 just fine with reel information but it looks like I can only reference durations not Timecode (or media references). Is this true? Are the TC’s hiding somewhere?

    Thank you in advance.

Yes, that’s true. FCE doesn’t display TC though it’s on DV media. Other media ingested using the Apple Intermediate Codec loses timecode on conversion.

    All the best,

interestingly FCE does retain tracking of TC and reel numbers it just has no provision for displaying it.
opening an FCE project in FCP will have all the TC edit information there and it can be reliably used for edl / omf etc. It costs $900 to see TC.

That would be a bit much if that’s all you got for $900. You can also get a free plugin from Piero Fiorani https://web.mac.com/piero.fiorani/PieroF_FCE_Effect/Timecode_Display.html which will display the TC. There is TC only in DV media not in HD media.

    All the best,

How right you are re if all you got was time code for $900
I’m amazed at how much you get with the purchase of FC Studio.
Thanks for the plug in tip
