    well that’s why I love tape and a Kona3
    out to HDCam@23.98
reinjest off tape in PD mode
lay in CC and Out to Tape 1080i

Saves the $8500 hardware CC encoder for 23.98
Gives the Client a 23.98 master for BluRay etc
Gives the Client a Broadcast ready 1080i master and SD dubs

Takes a little more time to make things right
    Happy Client= Returning Client

what happens if you drag your clip into the browser from the timeline, then drag that to the sequence you want to place it in? does that work?

If not double click to load clip into viewer, shift + i to goto inpoint. copy the timecode from this point and shift+o to take you to the outpoint. hit the “matchframe” button below the canvas window. press o in the viewer to mark an out then paste the timecode you copied into the timecode area in the viewer and mark your in. put that in your sequence. if that isn’t working you’ve got something hinky with prefs or sequence settings

you really should be able to copy and paste clips from any sequence to any sequence and if the sequence setiings are the same framerate the numbers oight not to change

June 14, 2010 at 3:22 pm in reply to: Terminology

the first number (4) is the multiplier applied to the sampling frequency of the luminence channel
the second two numbers are the multipliers applied to the sampling frequency for each of the color difference channels
HQ is short for high quality but is really a misnomer and out to be used for material 2K and higher

When a fourth number is present it refers to the alpha channel and is once again the multiplier applied to the sampling frequency of that channel.

The effective sampling rate for HDTV is 74.5 MHz

    Some heavy reading yet concise

June 7, 2010 at 10:30 pm in reply to: Problems with AJA out from Color

    Hello Olaf
I have no answer for your color-AJA issue but I will chime in on the time taken to build and load a system.
The first time it takes a little longer if you build a disk image of each install DVD on a hard drive you can mount on a tray and slide in your macpro. from there the installs take place much quicker, no need to load DVDs and much quicker reading. If you never have to rebuild it seems like time wasted, the first time you rebuild you’ll thank yourself.

June 7, 2010 at 7:36 pm in reply to: editing using NTFS formatted drive on a mac..

I don’t have trouble using NTFS to read from in FCP, but FCP takes conrol of drives and it seems to supercede finder level ownership so writing may be an issue. I have paragon NTFS for mac on my system and have no issues or complaints with it’s operation however I always use HFS for anything FCP needs to write to.
The PC alternative is macdrive from Mediafour. Have it on a Scratch system no problems or interference

You have 4 sata connections inside your Mac Pro. 1 will be used up for your system drive however you can install 3 more drives on the sleds provided in the machine and stripe a pair Raid0 for speed using disk utility. If you purchase some 2 tb bare SATA drives that’ll give you 4tb for $500
