They are two distinctly different cards with different capabilities. We have both here and they are different.
we don’t use HDMI since it won’t pass Psf signals. Component analog will and that’s what we use.
there is a firmware updater in most download packages from AJA after the package has been installed the folder labelled AJA Utilities has a program called AJA Kona updater. This will check your firmware and install the update if requiredDoug Beal

The JVC when set to Quicktime makes XDCamEX files which can be edited in FCP.
The Canon5D makes h264 Quicktimes which ought to be transcoded to ProRes first.
you might want to set the render to ProRes in your sequence if you set it up for XDCamEX.Doug Beal

In your initial question you mentioned playback on NTSC monitors. In your second question you state 30fps will not playback to your grading monitor.
Had you shot at 29.97 you would have a better chance of achieving playback
your grading monitor wants to see an NTSC signal. 30 fps is not an NTSC signal.
You will be able to play 30 fps on your computer display but not an NTSC display
1080i 59.94 has a field rate of 59.94 but a frame rate (TC rate is 29.97)
In NTSC progressive segmented frame rates can be 23.98 Psf or 29.97 Psf.
Note that a tri level sync generator is required for the Psf rates
fractional frame rates were needed in North America when TV began color broadcasting. in order to push more data ie color information within the same bandwidth the only available option was to slow the signal down to fit the data into the bandwidth.Doug Beal

item 013 in menu “system frequency”
select
use multiknob to select on
use multiknob to select 23.98 Psf Pull down out if you want HD “Pull down out SD” if you want SD
You may need some other menu settings depending on whats coming down the 422 line and the settings for how the pull down is applied 30 frame setting and 24 frame setting.
I keep them both set to 01:00:00:00 the TC is the same every second on the second between 23.98 and 29.97. Make sure you are set up in NDF and you’ll be fine
You will need to keep ref at 23.98 with tri level on the HDCam deck and black or input on your Kona. black is OK if your HDCam has black feeding the option2 ref on the rear of the machine. If you are unsure ask your engineer or sales rep how to set it up there is a few items regarding TC handling better left to someone who understands the two headed monster.

The Ki Pro will record ProRes from the SDI output of the camera so no need for the sony software for transcoding. The ProRes files the KiPro makes are ready to edit in FCP and some other NLEs.
There is 2 ch of analog audio if the EX3 doesn’t do embedded audio. There is also TC i/o.
All the files the ki pro creates are written to the onboard hard drive in a folder named AJA copied easily as the others have pointed outDoug Beal

I assume you are using the Kona control panel to configure your downconvert first correct?

Apparently No it Cannot
the TC will be switched to NDF and it will start at zero.
upgrade to 5.5 if you want this to work.I wonder if that upgrade will allow me to use my terrablock as a scratch disk and allow Kona3 functionality
just need to pony up againDoug Beal
