hi Asaf
it sounds like you’ve got a good grasp of the conceptthere’s lots of really useful stuff on our website in the tutorials section
https://www.squarebox.com/catdv-tutorials/
the subsection on getting organised has lots of info about customizing metadata ( user fields ) setting up views and logging
hopefully this will guide you through the process and sugest some ideas that you can adapt and modify for your own implementation
Cheers dougal

hi John
As Bryson suggests catdv server on a mac mini will give you the best experience in terms of ease of use etc
make sure the sql server machine is running as fast as possible i cant overstate the benefits of putting the DB on and SSD rather than traditional spinning disks
good luck with your build I hope the development of oyu archiving module goes smoothly
thanks dougal

hi Aaron
From the sound of things most of the slowdown is due to trying to browse the files on your storage if you can separate them into sub-folders then that will certainly speed catdv up
I’d also recommend splitting any large CatDV catalogs up into a number of smaller catalogs all your server searches will run across all of your catalogs but individually they’ll be much more responsive and easier to visually search in the client
I hope this helps you to improve the performance
thank you Dougal

hi Matt
here’s a working link to the fAQ you mentioned
https://www.squarebox.com/troubleshooting-web-client-proxies/
you may also find these manual entries of use
https://www.squarebox.com/webclient-advanced-operation/
https://www.squarebox.com/server68-manual-server-configuration/
you will need to use the same substitutions for mac and windows paths in the web proxies pathing to get things to work in a mixed environment
I hope this enables you to get things working

hi Bob
I’ve just had confirmation form our developers that this functionality will be included in the next major release of our server product – V7 which we’re hoping will be released next year – i’m not going to jinx things by giving an exact date at this point though
thank you Dougal

there are at least a couple of ways of going about this
you can export data in CatDV in a number of ways see https://www.squarebox.com/client-manual-additional-importers-and-exporters/ for the options but using catdv’s own xml will give you all the metadata for a selection of clips
alternatively by creating custom views and then printing them you can achive a more bespoke output in a verity of formats see the links below for pointers on how to customize displays and print
customizing the display
https://www.squarebox.com/tutorial-customising-catalogs-display/
printing from CatDV https://www.squarebox.com/client-manual-printing/
I hope this helps you reach your aims in terms of export

hi Pierre
you might want to create a new view to show your iptc data there’s a good guide on the squarebox website here
https://www.squarebox.com/tutorial-customising-metadata-display/
explaining how to do this
good luck Dougal

I’m afraid that there’s no way to set this automatically to default to the last thumbnail
currently the only solution is to set the desired thumbnail manually clip by clip
