I’m testing CatDV before a purchase.
Read the manual, just making sure I have the workflow right:
The tagging takes place under “Log Notes”.
You can add “Notes” or use the “user” fields for adding specific notes,
renaming the user fields to “Shot Type” “Participant” “Action” etc.

Is this correct ? I know the cat, its skin and methods.

    hi Asaf
it sounds like you’ve got a good grasp of the concept

there’s lots of really useful stuff on our website in the tutorials section

    https://www.squarebox.com/catdv-tutorials/

the subsection on getting organised has lots of info about customizing metadata ( user fields ) setting up views and logging

hopefully this will guide you through the process and sugest some ideas that you can adapt and modify for your own implementation

    Cheers dougal

Holy Cat. Going through this !

Anther methodial question – What’s the “right” or safest way to work ?
Organizing Catalog Files by projects ?
Then “Browse Catalogs” when necessary ?
I’ve read it’s not advisable to put too many clips in the Catalog.

    thanks

unfortunately given the variety of different workflows and the many parts of the catdv tool set i don’t think there can be a single “right” way of doing things.

certainly organizing catalogs by projects fits with the way people think so it tends to be intuitive and as all searches can be across all catalogs you can use keyword searches to create collections of media or open catalogs to browse or filter the clips.

In order to keep things responsive and manageable we recommend that a catalog should have no more than 3-5000 items inside, although some people get away with having far larger collections at some point performance will become compromised.

    cheers Dougal
