How about getting 2 real cheap old Powerbooks that have the old card slot, and use them as the card readers. I say 2 because you would want a back up. Not the best solution but it would work.

The fast answer is to buy a P2 card reader from Panasonic. I feel your pain, I too have useless Dual Adapter. I would hope that Panasonic did not have anything to do with the disappearing drivers. But we do know that Apple will scuttle connectivity with other companies products, if if suites their needs. Look at I-Tunes! We are all just 1 software update away from any of our 3rd party devices, intentionally or not
disappearing from the desktop of our Macs.
I would shell out the money for a an Aj-Pcd-20 drive off of E-bay. If you can.

Do you have the latest driver for the E-sata card. If the card maker doesn’t have it, go the chipset site and look there. Thats’s what I had to do with my LaCie card after upgrading to Snow Leopard.

February 3, 2010 at 10:18 pm in reply to: About to move from G5 to Macbook Pro… a few concernsMicah,
You didn’t mention any outboard self-contained capture card. Since you already know your going to be using your Express 34 slot for you eSATA connection. You’ll want a AJA IO HD or Io Express for monitoring and some tape capture purposes. This would run off your Firewire 800 bus, however it is the only thing that runs on your firewire bus. You would have to disconnect it to capture with firewire.
Do you have an AJA, or Blackmagic design card in your G5.

Roy,
is it possible that the tapes are recorded on a Consumer camcorder in LP mode, and your playing them back on Professional deck that can only handle SP mode. That would be the first thing I would look at.
The remedy for that problem would be to use the camera that they were shot on to do your capture. Another possibility would be that the heads were either dirty or clogged on the recording camera, or on your playback machine. Run a cleaning tape (one would of come with your deck) and see if that fixes the problem on the playback side. ( if the problem was on the record side you are out of luck) .

Just for grins, try another way to duplicate. if your using your keyboard, (option D) try using your control click menu (or right click menu). After I upgraded to FCP 7 and Snow Leopard, If I tried to import a clip by using “command I” it would not import. But if I right clicked and then used the menu presented, it would import. Subsequent software upgrades have taken care of that problem.

I’ve never had that problem using my HMC-150. You might want to download AVCCAM Restorer ateww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/ and see if that helps repair a corrupted clip which you may have on that card. Usually though if you have corrupted clip the camera recognizes it and starts the repair clip dialog itself. But you should try it. There is a Panasonic HMC-150 / HMC-40 forum you might also want to search there especially since it’s obvious your problem isn’t confined to FCP. Hope you get it fixed

Rafael,
I’m not sure who you are referring too, but I asked the question because I really had read that about ProRes HQ, and wanted to learn the truth instead of just blindly using the codec thinking I was using the best. But I have been in the business for 29 years, starting off as a Broadcast engineer using 3/4′ and Quad machines and moving through 1″ D-2 Digibeta etc…. If I ever stop learning, it will be time for me to get out of the business. Now we will all have to learn how to do 3d or be left behind. By the way VBS is referring to Video Blanking and Syncs or Composite video. May It Rest In Peace.
Maybe you weren’t referring to me, and I’m being oversensitive, but I believe the question was relevant, and appropriate for this forum.

Okay, he’s not one of the FCP leaders, but he does know what he’s talking about.
