Thanks, John! Yup, I see the switches and looked at the manual and it does look like this would do the trick! I appreciate your help.

Well at first I thought it was just a standard Hi 8 tape and I would transfer to mini DV using a GL 1, then capture from the mini DV. I have an ADS Pyro A/V link that I haven’t used for a year or so, but it doesn’t have NTSC/PAL switch. I’m thinking this isn’t going to be doable for me and I should just give him his tape back. I have no idea at this point how I would capture this from his camera. Doesn’t seem like I could capture to mini DV on a GL 1. So he basically just needs to capture the footage if he has his camera. What could I suggest to him that he needs in order to do the capture? I’m a PC DV guy and not a Mac person. Thanks for your advice.

If that can’t work for you (I can’t put those little discs in my laptop DVD slot), you can always play it from a DVD player using video/audio out and record to mini DV on your camcorder. There is always a way.

Should have done this first (duh) but it is very clearly spelled out in V8pro’s help files. Just import and convert. Pretty simple.

Thanks, Mary. I already figured that I could “try” that, and that definitely seems the way you would do it. I’ve done lots of importing of DVD’s, editing, and re-rendering to a new DVD, so I know about the quality hit…which really doesn’t seem to be that bad. However, what I really want to know is whether this actually WILL work and can it be done. I don’t want to tell a customer that I can definitely do this and then try and discover that Vegas just can’t make the PAL to NTSC conversion. Anyone know for sure that this will work?

I sort of agree with Rob. Powerpoint is pretty much crap. I have a client that has been making Powerpoint presentations for years for their clients and hired me to do a voice over for some. I convinced them to have me redo the entire powerpoint presentation using Vegas instead. Now they just send me their powerpoints and I “convert” them to a new presentation that can be uploaded to a server as a .wmv file, played on computer with a Video CD-R, or played on TV with a DVD. They are quite happy now with this “new way”. Looks much more professional, much more versatile on how it can be used, etc.

I was a user of MSP7 and upgraded to MSP8. I got sick of all the crashes whenever I scrubbed the timeline. MSP8 was very unstable for me, not to mention that it is dying off and isn’t supported by Ulead anymore. I have been using Vegas 7 for over a year and upgraded to Vegas Pro8. Vegas is rock solid stable, it is really hard to even try to make it crash. The learning curve was very easy coming from MSP8. And the more you learn about Vegas, the more you wish you switched earlier. My editing is MUCH faster, no crashes whatsoever, I can do more, it’s easier, and any MSP user should really make the switch. You won’t regret it.

I’ve been using Vegas now for around a year, having done a lot of editing with another NLE and I can say both of those suggestions are good ones. I particularly like the VAAST DVD’s as you can have them up on the screen while you are trying to figure out how to do something in Vegas. Very easy to navigate to the section you want to learn about, and it has been a great resource. Also, you’ll find that it doesn’t take long at all to grasp the basics, and then you are totally hooked and don’t want to consider any other NLE.

August 9, 2007 at 1:56 pm in reply to: help !! problem with imported powerpoint slides into VegasI have a customer that makes power point presentations they need voice overs for, and want to present them on Video CD-R’s and DVD’s. I have really struggeled with this issue in the past, and I know what you are experiencing. The problem with my customer is that their PPP’s are really anal retentive with “just the right” colors, backgrounds, etc. etc. In other words, they spend a LONG time making them and want a Video CD-R and DVD to look JUST like their PPP’s. The bottom line was that in order to make them look decent playing on a TV, I’ve ended up completely re-building them in Vegas using the Vegas titler. It has taken a fair amount of time to do, but I’ve got them to look pretty good. One trick to making the titles crisper and clearer is to double the frame size, i.e. if 720X480, change it to 1,440X960. A lot more work, but they look good. I just couldn’t find any way to make a PPP look decent any other way.

Thanks Darren. That was helpful. Hey, my weddings aren’t boring! Well, some of them are.
