October 2, 2006 at 3:27 am in reply to: Can Vegas use DVCPRO HD footage

there is nothing in the sony 24p whitepaper that mentions DVCproHD …

Vegas does not handle native DVCproHD clips …
you must use a 3rd party intermediate
cineform (.com), serious magic (.com), and raylight (dvfilm.com) all offer software to convert the panasonic MFX files into clips vegas can handle ..

note: not all MFX files are the same .. sony has their MFX , panasonic has their own, and avid has their …

can you drop the files captured in FCP into vegas TL (don’t do anything)
what extension does FCP give the files?

when i capture ( PC) using DV rack i have the choice to have either avi or mov extension =same data only a different header is written to the file … Vegas has no problem with these mov/qt files …

  • if you have a effects program with motion tracking = it tracks the motion of any object you attach the tracking points =say a person .. between motion tracking and stabilization it will keep the person in one place in frame .. you then use beziers to cut out the person ..because the person is not moving/shaking from camera it is much easier to adjust beziers .. once roto scoped (beziers) them you can then turn off tracker/stabilizer and camera shake/movement will return or you can just leave on the stabilizer or you can take the stabilization data and apply it to the background layer so it has same camera shake as the person layer …

May 18, 2005 at 1:36 pm in reply to: Vegas vs. Avid??

down load V6 and give it a test drive … avid may be a little faster on some rendering as many avid’s use hardware accelerators … you have already stated you don’t like it .. as far as quality Vegas will stand right along side avid and pass it on some media rendering ..it’s been awhile since i’ve been on avid so i don’t know the fine details on what media you can drop/mix into avid’s TL … most avid editors have a very difficult time changing NLE’s .. the ones that do give Vegas a try out find it very easy to use ..before V6 their biggest complaint was media management but that has changed with V6 .. so we’ll have to wait a bit to give them a change to try it out …

  • discreets combustion would work.. it has motion tracker to track an object/person , stabilzer , plus other goodies to help take out or add objects/person ..also after effects would work

look at work stations .. dell 600 series , BOXX , Alienware now has a desktop dual workstation. note that V5 does not take advantage of dual CPU’s .. V6 does take advantage of duals CPU’s ..

May 12, 2005 at 8:56 pm in reply to: “Quantize To Frame” Bug ?

i’m on the road so i don’t have V6 on this laptop..
in V5 i don’t see any red marks when i slip shots ( with quantize off – then turn back ON after slipping so frame lines are not lined up) i then move the clip down/up TL and still i don’tget a red line …
well anyway you get the clip back to proper place -turn off quantize ..place curser in TL at TC then zoom into TL then slip ( hold ALT while you right click drag video clip ) the shot till the small picture lines up with the curser at TC – once you line them up then turn quantize ON
