I tried a few keyers, none work like Ultimatte Advantedge. It is the easiest to use & most importantly, the cleanest. Most keys take 3 mouse clicks, others take 5. Advantedge does a lot of complicated math so it does take the longest to render. Major drawback if a client is sitting in front of you expecting a quick render on a :60 clip. Price is steep…$1500…but worth every penny!

  • Call Facilis, they’re easy to speak with & very helpful.
FWIW, they have a prerelease of their raid 5 software. If you’re still on your first year of support you can get the upgrade for free, otherwise it’s an upgrade purchase. I’m looking forward to un-mirroring my drives!

    Good point Drizzt_G.
I’m new to Mac & still learning. I was one of the first to jump on the Quad. Big mistake. It’s been in the shop 4 times! Everything has now been replaced except for the steel housing. The local authorized Mac shop said they’ve been having problems with the quads. I haven’t heard anything on the COW about this so I’m assuming bugs have been worked out. I’ll go with the quad & hold off on the intel chips. I don’t want to be a beta tester again!

Check out DH BOX. It’s really cool. You squeeze down a PIP or crop the PIP & re-center the image. I’ve done a bunch of this lately & it’s so much easier than the way FCP does it, & it only cost $10!
I just picked up Automotion too, but still working through some issues.

  • Free?
If you’ve used Excel sheets than I guess you’ve seen something similar to this: https://www.larryjordan.biz/goodies/index.html
Find someone that will give you a copy of Avid Medialog. It’s a stand-alone logger that comes with every Avid and owners are allowed to distribute it (for the purpose of logging). It includes machine control. Sebsky is a free program that will convert an Avid ale file to FCP for batching. https://www.dharmafilm.com/sebskytools/

    Bob,

    a) Sorry for the silly question but does this back up method apply to the Apple system drive? My Quadcore has been in & out of the shop two times. Everything has been swapped out for new parts except for the steel case. I love how Mac can zero in on the problem 🙂 With that said, I want to clone the system drive in each computer to avoid future problems and the many hours it takes to load back in FCS, plugins, AE, PS, MS OFFICE, ect.

    b) Is you Edit* system still up & running? Do you use it?

  • I prefer my old Symphony Animatte. Silhouette is usable & the best out there for FCP, but not as mature.
Get the demo & try it out.
