http://www.cineform.com … connectHD
http://www.dvfilm.com …. RayLight -
you might post the question for capture using connectHD on cineforms site ?
as connectHD3 is new and so is support for the JVCi use connectHD 2 on my desktop computer but could not get it to capture on laptop ( XP SP1 ..needs XP SP2 to capture HDV ) ..
can you convert the file to cineform files using connectHD ?

June 6, 2006 at 1:37 am in reply to: Where can I go to get a purely Cinematography Degree?you might look at the American Film Institute (AFI) ..i believe they take X # each Directors, Editors, producers, cinematographers, production designers for 1st year .. then i believe for 2nd year they only allow 5 persons in each area to advance ?

in general i use the one of the left ( – choose complementary color) to correct – it will choose/add the opposite of the color that you sample) so if your frame is a bit yellowish it will add BLUE to correct .. i find the other eye drop ( + )adds more of the same color so if your frame is a bit yellow it adds more yellow ..
in general you use the HIGH to correct your whites .. LOW to correct your blacks( shadows) and MED to correct skin tones or a mid range nuetral color .. in real use you can use any of them for white or darks – you can reverse them or use in any order you want – the low , med, high is just a suggestion ….

there has got to be a program that can just rewrite the header on a file so one does not have to render it out from a avi to qt .. i don’t now of any ??
but i do see that if you use DV rack to capture ( on pc) you have a choice for the file to be either avi, mov, canopus and a few others = which means the tape is transferring the SAME data to a pc or mac and the way it ends up QT or avi is ONLY the header that is written with the file … -
why do you want QT player to play your AVI’s ?
i assume the avi’s “converted ” to QT that you mean QT streaming files NOT dv.avi files to DV.mov files
-
seems they might need to get a newer version of QT for V5 ..
make sure they are using QT 6 or 7 .. do not send them h264 files
.. if they are doing the audio ( pic only for reference) you could send them QT using DV format or a 3mbs stream and change ( custom) the audio to use a no compression codec -

April 20, 2006 at 4:20 pm in reply to: Panasonic HVX200 workflow questions (used to DVCAM).bottom line is a real image at 24fps/30fps not a resolution chart at 1 frame per 3 min.
moving away form the HVX .. take a look at the higher end camera’s varicam 720p against the other 1080p camera’s ..
varicam has lowest res , and lets just say ( don’t know if it does) it comes in last on all technical test – does that mean it has the worst image ?
well you will see that on just about every test/comparison between hi end HD camera’s the Varicam is always mentioned as the most film like , the preferred image, the best image when viewing clips at running speeds ..so lets just say the HVX has the lowest res of the hand size camera’s. and lets just say it has the most noise and comes it last on all test – what you don’t hear test/comparision say is it has worst image – infact you hear just the opposite .. very good to excellent image and ALWAYS it is said most film like !!!
so you want to show a audience ressolution/technical test charts or real images?
now some will prefer one camera image over another image – IMO look at the test but decide by real image clips at running speed !!

“none of these new digital cine cameras exist yet”
perhaps you meant taking orders/for sale .. Silicon Imaging’s new camera does exist and you can see it at NAB ( not a mock up) .. if you look at the spec’s it exceeds the Varicam & others from chip (1920×1080) to recording ( 10 bit raw files vs 8 bit ) .. if panasonic/sony is moving away from tape then Silicon has accomplished that with recording to notebook USB size hard drives which are very resonabled priced compared to P2 cards …
during/after NAB we’ll see where the images line up next to the higher priced HD camera’s …
https://siliconimaging.com/DigitalCinema/comparison_chart.html
also the infinity HD camera will be at NAB for around 20K ..and there seems to be a few other camera’s announced/released at NAB …
true the RED at the moment does not exist …
i really doubt that jan/panasonic has anything to say about other camera’s until after NAB where they will be able to stroll over to other booths that have new camera’s and see for themselves.
what is clear is that other then panasonic it’s the smaller/little company that is offering NEW/inventive products and not the same ole video camera head with prism block recording to mpeg ..

if you print from TL – it has to render out all sections that had FX’s /transitions applied .. it also renders out the audio track ..
i have no problem printing from TL and you don’t see that many post having that problem .. which then leads to your computer set up ??you might try setting the RAM preview to 0 ( zero)
try dropping a 1-5 min clip in a NEW project TL ( not the current project) and see if you can print that to tape ? there maybe a problem with your current Veg file ( damaged/errors in it)
is vegas freezing on start up = vegas windows pops up but it hangs on the media manager ?
or is it freezing during editing ?
