If you are talking about capturing DV, no codec is used at all. It’s a straight file transfer. The wrapper is AVI Type II.

Thank you Gary. I downloaded the lastest QT7 player and upgraded to Pro. I have been told that it converts avi to QT better than rendering out of Vegas. The new player will not even recognize my avi files. They are very washed out looking. You can’t even tell what it is. I thought it might be a condec I needed.

why do you want QT player to play your AVI’s ?

i assume the avi’s “converted ” to QT that you mean QT streaming files NOT dv.avi files to DV.mov files

This is for someone wanting the avi compressed using QT to DV/DVCPRO – NTSC, 720X480 to be uploaded over the net.

there has got to be a program that can just rewrite the header on a file so one does not have to render it out from a avi to qt .. i don’t now of any ??
but i do see that if you use DV rack to capture ( on pc) you have a choice for the file to be either avi, mov, canopus and a few others = which means the tape is transferring the SAME data to a pc or mac and the way it ends up QT or avi is ONLY the header that is written with the file …
