figure a 20-25% loss of resolution using frame mode vs interlace … the reason they call it frame mode is because it is NOT progressive (PERIOD) and don;t let anybody try to talk you into believing it’s just the name canon gave to their “progressive” = not the same thing .. if i remember correctly i think the GL 1 has around a 480 line resolution in interlace mode and around 360 in frame mode …

hold the Ctrl key while you drag the end of the clip longer …for fast motion hold Ctrl key and make the clip shorter ( drag it shorter) ..

glad to see similar product avaiable at a lower cost ..
for every company it cost X $$ just to be in business. a drive might cost $100 but the Development & research has to be taken into account. there is warranty on the product , customer service, advertisement etc all add to the cost of product.. perhaps one company employs union workers ? and /or has great benefits for employess where another subs all work out to china/india for fraction of the cost ???off topic … which brings up ! the cost of INK replacement for printers .. we are talking about .10 of ink selling for $25-50 ??? or how about persons complaing about $3 a gallon gas and at the same time buying a pt of water for 1.50 at same gas station ?? OK enough of the off topic ..
thanks for the link to other fire store like product …

if it was only as simple as most think but it is not as simple as putting a drive in a 1394 case …
i do believe that DV rack is working on a sloution to use their software … so that will solve some shooting situations but not all.
just can’t please everybody .. P2 4gig card = $1700 and complaints about the cost & recording time … now we get80gig drive for $2000 and still complaints … perhaps those that have the tech ability should make their own portable external drive system ..like those that made a device like the mini35 for $1200. i see they are getting complaints about that price vs the mini35 at $6K+ … but then there are complaints on higher end DV tape that cost $6 vs. the $3 for the less expensive …
maybe what we have here is a McDonalds crowd ( hand size DV camera $$ 2000-3500) and now somebody is offerring a better burger for more $$ ( 2x-3x $$ ) …

“HD 1080 24p you munch up 1 gig per minute — so unsuitable for documentary or dramatic film-making”
well in the FILM WORLD 11 min is max you get from a 35mm 1000ft magazine but most of the time you change the mag around 10 min just depends on how long the current scene is timing = if your scene is 3 min then you would have to change the maybe at 8 min , in film you need a little head/tails to run off …
so if what you say is true = 1 gig per min in 1080 24p then 2 8gig p2 cards would be 18 min so you will NOT hear any film persons complaining about that for dramatic film making …

September 8, 2005 at 9:08 pm in reply to: User interface: room for improvement here I feelhave you tried using the trimmer instead of using TL to go thru clips and select I/O or highlight area then either drag to TL or use ADD to curser icon to add to TL ?
have you tried using the numeric key pad to trim shots ?

i don’t think the camera is for a person that only shoots DV25 ..
the 6K is a little out of reach for many that probably post here ??
10K is out or range for many AND also seems like a great deal to others when compared to other camera’s out there with like features …IMO it’s all how you look at the camera ..
is the glass half full or half empty ??
many see other possible solutions then the P2 cards …the current projects i’m working on are talking heads ( tripod) to Dv rack (computer) .. if i could shoot DVCpro50 to DV rack (computer) i would consider 4:2:2 worth every $$ of the 6k price.. and if DV rack could also do 720p or 1080p then that is just EXTRA freebees for the list 6k.. if DV rack doesn’t offer a solution other 3rd party’s are working on it NOW …

i rename .vob to .mpg and then the clip plays in Vegas and WMP…
if the .VOB ( or renamed .mpg) is copyright protected ( as in encoded with do not copy software/hardware) ) from a DVD then i have found that V will not play it and may crash -
the spec’s call for DVCpro50 4:2:2 .. it remains to be seen how high quality the images will be as nobody has seen any images from the ccd’s ..
kind of like the dvx100 is 4:1:1.. is it high quality ? compared to say the sdx900 in dvcpro25 mode ?? they are both 4:1:1 .. the 2 images do have a different quality … depending on your preference one might consider the images from the 2/3″ CCD camera higher quality then the 1/3″ CCD camera ??
