    Ladies, gentlemen,

I am absolutely in love with Vegas Video and I proudly show it to my film class students. The only thing with drives me completely bonkers is that I often – accidently and unwantingly – click on either the ‘Event pan/crop…’ or Event FX…’ icon on the right of each event when trying to resize the event. What really disturbs me is that after that I have no possibility intervening, e.g. avoid the Event pan/crop or FX windows from coming up.
I would like to be able to have more control, and at least be able to press on the escape button with my left hand and cancel the window from appearing. Please seriously consider this; it would make working with Vegas a lot more comfortable.

Another thing is the following: often I use the JKL keys with my right hand and the S key with the left to make the first rough edits of hours of material, which is to say that I redefine the in- and outpoints of each event. What bugs me and costs me a lot of time and strain, is that when using the slice key S, I have to manually delete the parts of the events I don’t use. I would love to see Vegas Video automatically recognizing that the editor is changing the in and out point of an event, and automatically adjusts it. For example by using Ctrl-S, a combination which can be used with the left hand while my right hand stays comfortably on the JKL jeys.

Thanks, and I’d love to hear comments on this.

I, personally, have not had a problem with this. You might try going to View – Video Event Buttons and you can turn them off. However, you’ll have to right-click to access them.

Don’t have time to answer the other half right now.

have you tried using the trimmer instead of using TL to go thru clips and select I/O or highlight area then either drag to TL or use ADD to curser icon to add to TL ?

have you tried using the numeric key pad to trim shots ?

Thanks for responding. No, I don’t use the trimmer, for…

…I don’t want to use the mouse when going through hours of footage with hundreds of events. I am not in the position that I can afford getting RSI. I want to use both hands.

I’m working on a laptop, so I don’t have the numeric key pad. Would it change anything?

    Much obliged,

A numeric keypad would be a nice addition to your laptop. Many people who’ve taken the time to learn those keys really swear by them.

Personally, I haven’t taken the time, but I think I should.

Sounds good, but could you tell me exactly how using the keypad makes life easier?

    Thanks in advance,

A shuttlepro is a wonderful way to keep both hands in motion instead of only one. It’s ability to customize buttons for multiple keystroke entries is also invaluable. Good luck

I would second the suggestion for the Shuttle Pro. For the work you describe, it’s invaluable.

You can toggle the Pan/Crop and event buttons on and off very easily with Ctrl/Shift C.

I’ll give Shuttlepro a try. Thanks everyone for having replied.
