ProMax in general is a good company. However, these transcoders do leave a lot to be desired.

The break out box can be used in either platform. It is the PCI cards that is not cross platform.

You don’t have much choice for that money.
Either find somewhere the discontinued PVM 20L5 and get the HD-SDI option board (about 5-6500 total)
or use widescreen LCD monitors from Apple, Dell, Sony or HP.

v210 probably refers to the official fourcc of the codec. A bit more technical. It is like saying DV and DV24 411.

That is an inaccurate statement. You cannot get RT in FCP unless you use one of the optimized codecs – DV25, uncompress, etc. Try dropping an MJPEG A on the timeline and see what happens.
Avid does support DV25, DV50 and DV100.

I don’t think I was dismissive. Just stating the reality that HDV is as a post workflow is immature. One or two prosumer deck. Prosumer cameras for now. No RT output. Etc. HDV with FCP on a top of the line G5 is not much fun either.
Actually – most of the HDV editors I know are using Vegas, Premiere Pro and Edius. So I am unsure if your suspicion is true – at least my part of the woods [NYC].

PixelGuy is right about deleting a clip(s) by making it offline. However, there is really no way to clean a drive of media within FCP. There is no media manager like Avid. Yes, you can delete your scratch disk folder but you may end up deleting things you may need.
It is basically Finder type media management with couple of tools to help you out on the way. It is up to you to be organized and discipline in order to prevent instanity. It is very open ended. Good on some part but just horrendous on large projects, especially collaborative ones where you have multiple machines, editors, AEs and producers.

Actually you could always delete unrelated precomputes with Avid as far as I can remember. All you have to do is select media relatives and reverse selection.

Actually you could. You just need to be configured properly. It is no different than using FW drives with AJA Io.

Never thought it is a big deal if it came out spring of this year or winter. The lack of a serious deck and clients interested in editing in native HDV [all want something easier so far in my experience] has not affected us at all.
